Keysight and Ettifos push 5G technology into cars

As the demand for connected and autonomous cars grows, the application of 5G in the automotive industry needs to meet a number of specific requirements to be successful. Sidelink connectivity, a key feature of cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology, allows vehicles to share information and other elements of the road system without a network connection.

5G applications will help optimize connectivity in cars

The 5G New Radio (NR) V2X specification, based on the Rel-16 standard, will deliver higher throughput, enhanced reliability, and reduced latency, while enabling vehicles to share rich, real-time data supporting connected and autonomous vehicle experiences.

Following the completion of conformance testing, Keysight and Ettifos equipment has been validated for compliance with Rel-16 standards. Developers now have trusted tools to test advanced use cases designed for 5G-V2X. In the process, Keysight released the market’s first radio frequency (RF) physical layer test software applications supporting NR V2X for PathWave Signal Generation Desktop and Keysight’s X-Series RF vector signal generators.

“We see the next critical phase for connected vehicles as a transition from basic safety features, supported by LTE-V2X, to advanced safety features and advanced use cases that leverage the power of 5G-V2X,” said Thomas Goetzl, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s automotive and energy solutions group. “Keysight’s 5G-V2X-ready signal generators and signal analysis platforms have the performance and capabilities needed to provide the development capabilities and insights our customers, such as Ettifos, need to develop products like the SIRIUS platform.”
