According to The Times of Israel, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the country will open a new border crossing into the Gaza Strip to facilitate the transfer of aid to Palestinians from abroad or from neighboring Jordan.

The new crossing will be opened on the northern part of the Gaza border to reduce the time it takes to transport aid from the Israeli city of Ashdod, 40 km away. This increased aid will prevent a humanitarian crisis.

International pressure is mounting on Israel after it claimed responsibility for an attack that killed seven staff members of the US-based charity World Central Kitchen (WCK).

Since December 2023, Israel has gradually reopened two existing crossings and built a new one into Gaza. Last week, Israel announced that it would accept aid shipments to Gaza at the southern port of Ashdod.

Air Canada has resumed flights to the Middle Eastern country after a suspension that began on October 8, 2023 due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Israel Airports Authority (IAA) said. Earlier this month, British Airways, KLM of the Netherlands and Iberia Express of Spain resumed flights to Israel, amid the ongoing but less intense fighting in Gaza.
