The self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) organization claimed that a member of this terrorist organization carried out a knife attack that killed 3 people and injured 8 others in the city of Solingen, Germany.

In a statement on the Telegram app, IS claimed the attack was revenge for Muslims everywhere. The subject was described as "an IS soldier" who targeted "a gathering of Christians".

Meanwhile, German media reported that the police had arrested the suspect. Speaking on ARD, North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister Herbert Reul said he felt "a little relieved" after the authorities arrested the suspect. According to Reul, the police also arrested two other suspects during the operation, but they were not the perpetrators. The suspect is currently being questioned and the police have also seized a lot of evidence.

Mr. Hendrik Wuest, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, affirmed that the attack was a terrorist act. The incident occurred at Fronhof - a square in Solingen, where a festival was held to celebrate the 650th anniversary of the founding of Solingen. The festival was scheduled to last for 3 days, starting on August 23, and was estimated to welcome 75,000 visitors.
