RT reported that Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei on June 28 once again affirmed that Iran has no plans to possess nuclear weapons but still retains the right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes.

Mr. Baghaei rejected Israel's claim that Tehran had secretly developed nuclear weapons, adding that reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supported Iran's stance.

"I think Iran has been very clear for the last two, three decades that we are not seeking nuclear weapons. There has never been weapons-grade enrichment in Iran. Please look at the IAEA reports and show me if there is any clue or evidence that Iran's nuclear program is deviating from peaceful purposes. The fact is that Iran's nuclear program is still purely peaceful," Mr. Baghaei stressed.

Mr. Baghaei also expressed disappointment with the IAEA for not strongly condemning the attacks by Israel and the United States.

“What we expect from the IAEA is to remain faithful to its responsibilities and mandate by condemning, in clear terms, the US and Israeli attacks on our nuclear facilities,” he said.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman continues to defend Iran's right to enrich uranium under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Iran's parliament has reportedly passed a bill to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, accusing the agency of providing a "pretext" for US and Israeli attacks.
