Contribute to greening the area
Mr. To Van Dat, Chairman of Phu Giao District People's Committee, said that the locality has identified tree planting as one of the key tasks in environmental protection and climate change response. To concretize the Prime Minister 's project "Planting one billion trees in the period of 2021-2025", the district has issued a plan to implement the construction of environmental landscapes in the period of 2021-2025. Accordingly, to date, the whole district has planted more than 140,000 scattered trees. The district prioritizes planting trees such as star apple, oil, purple crape myrtle, and rosewood... suitable for local soil and climate conditions.
Recently, Phu Giao district continued to organize a ceremony to launch the planting of over 2,400 trees in Regiment 271, Tam Lap and Phuoc Hoa communes, Phuoc Vinh town and Special Forces Brigade 429. The locality focused on the stages of selecting seeds, improving soil, planting techniques and care. Thanks to the close coordination between units, levels, sectors and the active participation of the people, the survival rate of trees after planting reached over 85%.
As the administrative center of the district, Phuoc Vinh town aims to develop in a green, clean, and civilized direction. Mr. Huynh Huy Long, Chairman of Phuoc Vinh town People's Committee, said that in 2025, the town was assigned to plant 450 trees. The tree planting work was implemented synchronously by the locality, assigning tasks to each neighborhood, school, and organization, mobilizing the participation of union members, association members, farmers, and students in the area. Mr. Pham Xuan Nghiep, Head of the Executive Board of Neighborhood 2, Phuoc Vinh town, shared that the neighborhood has about 500 households, most of whom are conscious of maintaining environmental hygiene. In addition to maintaining the "Civilized Saturday" activities, the residents of the neighborhood also actively participate in planting flowers and taking care of trees along the roads. Thanks to that, the neighborhood is increasingly spacious, clean, and beautiful, making people feel happy and proud.
According to the leaders of Phu Giao District Youth Union, the district’s youth always actively propagate to raise awareness among people, youth union members, and students about the benefits of tree planting. Youth are the pioneers in tree planting and care activities, contributing to building the local landscape to be increasingly green, clean, and beautiful.
“Pushing back” plastic waste pollution
In 2024, the volume of domestic solid waste generated in Phu Giao district is about 87.83 tons/day, of which the amount of collected and treated domestic waste is 55.26 tons/day, accounting for 62.92%; in urban areas alone, the collection rate reaches 98.8%. More than 1/3 of domestic waste has not been collected, including plastic waste - a type of waste that is difficult to decompose.
According to the leaders of Phu Giao district, to gradually reduce plastic pollution, the district is synchronously implementing many specific solutions, aiming to build environmentally friendly consumption and living habits. The focus is on promoting propaganda and raising public awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste and nylon bags that are difficult to decompose. Along with that, the restriction of the use of disposable plastic products is being encouraged, replaced by environmentally friendly items such as cloth bags, glass cups, bamboo straws, etc. The district is also promoting waste classification at source, strengthening connections with collection and recycling units, especially effectively reusing plastic waste.
In addition, businesses and production establishments in the district are oriented to prioritize the application of clean technology and the production of environmentally friendly products. Mass organizations and schools play a key role in spreading the message of "Reduce plastic - protect the environment", bringing this message into depth. Each person, with simple actions such as carrying a personal water bottle, refusing plastic bags when going to the market, is also contributing to creating positive changes for the living environment...
The leader of Phu Giao District Youth Union said that in recent times, the District Youth Union has strengthened coordination with departments and branches to promote propaganda on environmental protection and natural resources; promote the role and raise the responsibility of cadres, youth union members and people in environmental protection activities such as rational exploitation, effective use, saving resources, not littering, not using wasteful food, increasing the use of environmentally friendly packaging products. Youth Union bases in the whole district have proactively advised and proposed to undertake many projects and youth tasks related to environmental improvement such as planting trees, dredging canals, maintaining the implementation of "Green Sunday", "Volunteer Saturday"...
Mr. Van Quang Chinh, Vice Chairman of Phu Giao District People's Committee, said that Phu Giao is an agricultural district with a strong livestock industry, leading to environmental problems. The district is gradually solving this problem. In addition to the high rate of solid waste collection in the whole district, the district also focuses on environmental quality monitoring, developing a plan to respond to waste incidents and strengthening inspections of production and business establishments at risk of causing pollution. The district has also proposed two breakthrough programs for the 2020-2025 period, which are to continue developing high-tech agriculture associated with production, processing, and consumption of products and building advanced new rural areas in parallel with environmental protection.
Mr. Van Quang Chinh, Vice Chairman of Phu Giao District People's Committee: Phu Giao District has many good models and effective ways of protecting the environment. These are the models of self-managed roads undertaken by associations and organizations; flower roads and model flower gardens; the model of classifying household waste at source; the model of exchanging scrap for necessities; the festival "Phu Giao Youth Do Not Use Single-Use Plastic Products"... |
