Houthis warn of violating ceasefire in Gaza Strip while Israeli Prime Minister says deal will not go ahead until Hamas reveals identity of hostages to be released.

Yemen's Houthi forces said on January 19 that they had attacked a US aircraft carrier and warned of consequences if any retaliation took place during the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to AFP. The Houthis said they attacked the USS Harry S. Truman and other warships with cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

"The Yemeni armed forces will confront any aggression with specific military operations without limits or red lines," the Houthis said.

Since the Hamas-Israel conflict broke out in October 2023, the Houthis have begun attacking ships believed to be linked to Israel and its supporters in the Red Sea in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The Houthis have warned that they will continue to attack Israel if it does not comply with the ceasefire agreement. The agreement is expected to take effect at 8:30 a.m. on January 19, Gaza time (1:30 p.m. Vietnam time).

Israeli Prime Minister threatens

In a speech to the nation 12 hours before the ceasefire agreement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this was only a temporary ceasefire and Israel had the right to resume hostilities if necessary, according to The Guardian .

Mr Netanyahu said he had the support of US President-elect Donald Trump, who told NBC News he had told the Israeli prime minister to "do what has to be done".

Mr Netanyahu warned that the deal would not be implemented if Hamas did not release the names of the 33 hostages that would be released as promised.

Phase 1 of the deal lasts 42 days, during which Hamas will release 33 hostages and Israel will release more than 700 Palestinian prisoners.

A Hamas source told Ynet News that due to technical reasons, it was not possible to provide the identities of the hostages released on January 19, which were expected to be three.
