VnExpressVnExpress01/06/2023

Lang Son Due to durian season, the number of vehicles traveling to Lang Son is high, at one point more than 700 vehicles were stuck and had to be delayed for customs clearance to the following days.

The Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone, Lang Son province, said that the situation of agricultural export vehicles being stuck has been going on for more than a week.

The agency's report on May 30 showed that the majority of vehicles stuck were at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate with 570 vehicles, of which more than half were durian trucks.

Mr. Hoang Khanh Duy, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Dong Dang-Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone, said that the reason for the traffic jam is because domestic durian is in harvest season and this product can only be officially exported through Huu Nghi International Border Gate.

Currently, the customs clearance capacity at 5 border gates in Lang Son is still stable with more than 1,000 vehicles per day. Of which, Huu Nghi international border gate alone has more than 500 vehicles, Tan Thanh border gate has more than 300 vehicles.

To avoid vehicles spilling out onto the road and causing disorder, the Management Board of Dong Dang-Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone is currently arranging for vehicles to be stored in the duty-free zone. "The border gate has also worked with China to request that they work overtime, optimize inspection and control, and increase customs clearance capacity at Huu Nghi," said Mr. Duy.

In addition, the Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone also requested the Chinese authorities to arrange customs clearance for durian through Tan Thanh Border Gate. On May 30, 63 trucks of durian were exported through this border gate.

Faced with this situation of agricultural product trucks being congested, on the evening of May 31, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested 8 ministries, localities and relevant agencies to promptly find ways to handle and promote the clearance of agricultural products at northern border gates.

The Prime Minister assigned relevant units to review regulations on agricultural product imports between Vietnam and China; coordinate with the authorities of this country to simplify procedures, increase time and efficiency for customs clearance to avoid goods being congested and easily damaged in hot weather conditions.

Leaders of provinces with border gates in the northern border area must have measures to regulate and manage vehicles bringing goods to border gates, handle congestion points; support and promptly resolve procedures to speed up customs clearance.

These provinces also need to promptly inform localities, agencies and businesses nationwide about the situation of agricultural product circulation and export at border gates to proactively adjust the volume of goods, minimize damage to businesses and people; and strictly handle acts of taking advantage of the situation for personal gain.

The Departments of Industry and Trade and Agriculture and Rural Development seek to further promote the consumption of agricultural products in harvest season in the domestic market.

In the long term, the Prime Minister suggested that ministries and sectors seek ways to promote official agricultural exports, remove technical barriers in agricultural exports; diversify transportation methods; develop concentrated agricultural production areas with appropriate scales, ensuring compliance with regulations on product traceability, geographical indications, and food safety.
