On August 15, more than 200 delegates from agencies, associations, research institutes, experts and urban environmental enterprises nationwide attended the Workshop on “Policy mechanisms to improve the efficiency of domestic solid waste management in the implementation phase of the two-tier local government model” at the Seraphin Waste-to-Energy Plant (AMACCAO). The workshop was organized by the Vietnam Urban and Industrial Environment Association, as part of a series of activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the association’s establishment.

This is also the first time that the Vietnam Urban Environment and Industrial Zone Association has coordinated with the Seraphin Waste-to-Energy Plant - the second largest modern waste treatment facility in Southeast Asia - to organize a nationwide specialized workshop.

According to the Organizing Committee, the selection of Seraphin is of great significance, because this is not only the first large-scale waste-to-energy plant invested by a Vietnamese enterprise, but also represents the intelligence, capacity and enthusiasm of Vietnamese people in the field of renewable energy - environmental treatment.

Another highlight of the workshop was the on-site visit to the Seraphin Waste-to-Energy Plant. All delegates were impressed by the scale, waste treatment process, and advanced waste-to-energy technology that the plant is applying. All input waste is treated and converted into clean electricity and recycled by-products, effectively serving the needs of socio -economic development. Emission indicators meet European standards and far exceed Vietnamese standards.

At the same time, visitors expressed their impression of the factory's landscape, which is different from the stereotype of a waste treatment facility. "The space outside as well as the interior of the factory is also arranged in a modern, clean and beautiful way, like in a 5-star project," one visitor commented.

A delegate from Hoa Binh shared: “I was very impressed when visiting the waste treatment plant. I did not expect the air, space to be so clean and beautiful and the technology to be so modern. I am really happy and hope that there will be more factories like this in the provinces and cities.”

Contributing to redefining a waste treatment plant

Seraphin Waste-to-Energy Plant contributes to redefining the concept of a waste treatment plant, not a polluted, heavy place, but a green, clean, beautiful, community-friendly building, modern in operation and meeting environmental standards.

According to the representative of AMACCAO Group, investing in landscape and architecture for the factory is not simply a matter of aesthetics, but stems from social responsibility and compliance with international standards.

A beautiful factory has profound propaganda and educational value, especially for students - the generations that will directly decide the future of the environment. It is also a way to build consensus in the community, bringing dual benefits of protecting the environment and creating local jobs.

AMACCAO representative affirmed that with the seriousness shown right from the design, construction to operation stages, the green, clean, and beautiful factory space is not for show, but is a way to demonstrate the group's sense of responsibility and long-term commitment to the community. "Whatever commitment we have made, when implementing it, we can only make it more beautiful and better - from design to operational quality", the representative emphasized.

From workshop to action

The workshop ended with many positive and meaningful impressions. Not only did it open up practical policy suggestions for the management of domestic solid waste in the new period, the event was also a place to connect intelligence, share experiences and propose creative approaches among managers, experts and businesses.

In the context of rapid urbanization and increasing environmental pressure, this workshop shows a strong consensus that waste management is not only the task of one industry, but also a common responsibility of the whole society, requiring synchronous innovation in mechanisms, policies and practices.

The success of the workshop also once again affirmed the increasingly important role of the Vietnam Urban Environment and Industrial Zone Association over the past 30 years, not only as a professional organization, but also as a forum to contribute voices and initiatives for the sustainable development of the country. With pioneering models such as Seraphin and the cooperation of the business community, the belief in Vietnam's ability to master high technology is further strengthened.

From that foundation, the association will continue to move forward, enhance its position, become an important bridge between policy - science - practice, and at the same time promote the birth of many international environmental projects, contributing to creating a green, clean, and sustainable future for Vietnamese cities.

Seraphin Waste-to-Energy Plant is the first large-scale waste-to-energy plant invested by a Vietnamese enterprise and the second largest waste-to-energy plant in Southeast Asia. After only 3 years and 2 months, Seraphin has now operated and processed 2,250 tons of waste per day, generating 37 MW of clean electricity per hour, with emission targets always strictly controlled, meeting European standards, becoming an outstanding project in green economy - circular economy - digital economy.

Along with that, Seraphin also makes a strong impression with its modern, green, and clean design. AMACCAO's vision is that each waste-to-energy plant will become an iconic project that inspires and changes the community's perception of the waste treatment industry.
