Yonhap News Agency quoted South Korean Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo as saying that before the summit, on May 26, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will have bilateral meetings with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

According to Mr. Kim Tae-hyo, the summit will discuss six areas of cooperation: economy and trade, sustainable development, health issues, science and technology, safety and disaster management, and people-to-people exchanges, and issue a joint statement. In addition, the leaders are expected to exchange opinions on international and regional issues, as well as meet with businessmen and attend a business forum.

Mr. Kim Tae-hyo said that the summit will contribute to the complete restoration and normalization of the trilateral cooperation system among South Korea, Japan and China, and create an opportunity to restore the momentum of substantive and future-oriented cooperation among the three countries.

The last South Korea-China-Japan summit was held in Chengdu, China, in December 2019. The summit was suspended due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the deterioration of relations between Seoul and Tokyo due to the conflict over wartime forced labor. Discussions to resume the summit have increased amid warming relations between Seoul and Tokyo.
