To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), the People's Committee of Ly Son Special Zone will organize the traditional Tu Linh boat racing festival (8 boats).
Participating in the festival are Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle, and Phoenix boat teams representing villages and hamlets on the island. The athletes are local or of Ly Son origin.
The racing festival takes place at the Ly Son Special Zone Boat Racecourse, consisting of 2 rounds: round 1 at 9:00 a.m. on August 24, 2025 (Sunday, July 2 of the lunar calendar); round 2 for the championship cup takes place 30 minutes later.
The Organizing Committee will provide financial support to the teams and award many valuable prizes, including the championship prize including a Cup, Gold Medal and 10 million VND. Security, order, health and environment work will be strictly implemented, creating conditions for the festival to take place safely and solemnly.
The traditional Tu Linh boat racing festival in Ly Son was first held in 1826 to show gratitude to the ancestors, the predecessors who had the merit of reclaiming and building Ly Son island; and to show gratitude to the heroic Hoang Sa Bac Hai team who had the merit of planting Vietnam's sovereignty markers on the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.
The traditional boat racing festival of Tu Linh Ly Son was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national intangible cultural heritage.
The Four Sacred Animals Boat Racing Festival is a traditional cultural beauty of Ly Son residents, contributing to educating the spirit of solidarity and promoting the image of Ly Son to tourists.
