Vocational Education After Grade 9: How to Succeed?

In the context of the labor market continuing to thirst for college and intermediate level human resources to develop production and business, many parents proactively choose to let their children learn a trade right after grade 9 so that they can soon enter the labor market and find their own way to success.

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên10/06/2025

Yesterday afternoon, June 10, at the online television consultation program with the topic "Many learning directions for students after grade 9" organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper, a lot of new information about vocational training after grade 9 was informed to parents and students by representatives of colleges and intermediate schools.

The program is broadcast at thanhnien.vn , Facebook fanpage, YouTube channel, and TikTok of Thanh Nien Newspaper.

FREE TUITION, MORE AND MORE CONVENIENT CONNECTION

Present at the program, Master Tran Phuong, Principal of Viet Giao Secondary School, commented: "In 2025, vocationaleducation will have a major change when colleges and secondary schools are assigned to the Ministry of Education and Training. This will bring certain advantages because colleges and secondary schools will integrate into the general enrollment system of the Ministry of Education and Training, creating unity in management and consistency in the issue of interconnectivity".

According to Master Tran Phuong, previously there were regulations on articulation to create conditions for secondary school graduates to continue their studies at vocational schools to university. However, in the new situation, articulation will be more convenient and clearer.

"When you have a secondary school diploma and complete the amount of cultural knowledge prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training, you can completely transfer to a regular university or take the high school graduation exam to get a score for university admission. When entering university, you will also have a 20% reduction in knowledge. Viet Giao Secondary School cooperates with many universities in Ho Chi Minh City so that you can transfer to the right major.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mong Lanh, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Saigon Polytechnic College, also said that the articulation is very convenient when intermediate students can advance to college right at the school and to universities.

Besides the transfer program, a big advantage of vocational training after grade 9, according to Master To Huynh Thien Truong, Vice Principal of Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary School, is that students can save a lot of time and money, taking only 3 years to both study culture and learn a trade and soon enter the labor market.

"In particular, the government has a policy of supporting 100% of tuition fees for junior high school graduates to attend college. Nguyen Tat Thanh College does not charge any additional fees. Therefore, students will not have to spend much money when studying," said Master Thien Truong.

Master Tran Phuong also informed that the level of support depends on the field of study. Accordingly, the tuition subsidy that students receive when studying at Viet Giao Secondary School is from 40 - 42 million VND/course. At schools, including Saigon Polytechnic College, students not only receive tuition reimbursement but also have the opportunity to receive scholarships if they have good academic performance.

N MANY SUITABLE FIELDS OF STUDY, HIGH DEMAND FOR HUMAN RESOURCES

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mong Lanh believes that at the age of 15, 16, students can study majors such as automotive engineering technology, electricity - electronics, tourism, economics , design... The important thing is that they have love and passion.

"For example, in the automotive engineering industry, in the first two years students will study general subjects with a fairly light curriculum, then study vocational subjects with 70% practice.

The school focuses on teaching students to have solid skills before entering the labor market, so they can work at car companies. The salary of a new college graduate in this field is from 6 to 15 million VND, depending on each student's ability," Ms. Lanh shared.

At Viet Giao Secondary School, Master Tran Phuong said that there are many majors suitable for students after grade 9 and the labor market is very thirsty for human resources, especially in Ho Chi Minh City. "For example, the tour guide industry, for students who like to communicate, explore and have foreign language skills, can work as tour guides, travel agents... in Ho Chi Minh City, a large tourist center, with high income. In addition, there are majors in food processing, entertainment service management and event organization, hotel management, accounting... job opportunities are also very large", Mr. Phuong shared.

One industry that is currently attracting, according to Master To Huynh Thien Truong, is modeling and beauty care, due to the growing demand for beauty among the people. "At Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary School, this industry trains 4 modules including hair modeling techniques, nail techniques, makeup and skin care. Students are equipped with the skills to work at beauty establishments immediately after graduation. In addition, an intermediate degree is fully qualified for students to open a beauty care facility at home," Master Truong informed.

C CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND CONDITIONS

Although many parents today no longer hold the view that they must go to university at all costs, they are still hesitant to let their children learn a trade because they think that it is difficult to succeed in a trade.

Sharing about this issue, Master Tran Phuong commented: "University education used to be the default measure of success. However, in the current context, vocational training allows you to develop your career, advance, and earn a high income, no different from university graduates. Reality has proven that many students with specialized skills and practical skills have created values when working, so they are highly appreciated by businesses and assigned to important positions."

According to Mr. Phuong, many students after graduation start their own businesses, opening bakeries, restaurants, event organizations, etc. "When they have high skills, when they work in businesses or become their own boss, their income is also high. Many students who study culinary at the school work in large hotels and restaurants, have skills and experience, and earn up to 40 - 50 million VND/month. However, in any profession, to be successful, they must have the spirit of constantly learning, be passionate about their work, and persevere to reach the level of experts. In addition, they must always proactively update their knowledge, be aware of improving their skills, have a scientific and professional working attitude, and have time management, behavior, and communication skills...", said Master Tran Phuong.

Majors related to restaurants and hotels are also chosen by many students.

Therefore, Mr. Phuong believes that vocational training is suitable for many people and has great potential in the current labor market context, and students can completely build a stable career, high income, and be successful in their own way.

Meanwhile, Master To Huynh Thien Truong said that many vocational school students won medals at regional and world vocational skills competitions. "That shows that they can conquer the pinnacle of their careers. Many students who have finished their vocational training are working at major national construction projects such as Long Thanh airport... When they study hard and work hard to improve their skills to reach the level of experts, they always have a worthy income," Master Truong said.

According to Ms. Mong Lanh, recently, choosing vocational training is not only for students who do not qualify for public high schools, but is also suitable for all students who love vocational training and want to enter the labor market early. "Many excellent students still decide to pursue vocational training, based on their own needs and desires. The labor market places great emphasis on skilled labor. Students can completely develop their careers and work in key positions in businesses, with good income if they always study hard. Accordingly, students can study on their own to improve or transfer to university to gain more knowledge...", Ms. Lanh shared.

In any profession, to be successful you must have the spirit of continuous learning, passion for work, and perseverance to reach the level of expert.
