Housing support - creating more momentum for sustainable poverty reduction

With many creative ways, Dong Hy district has mobilized resources to support poor households and policy families to repair and build new houses, creating motivation to strive for sustainable poverty reduction. This is also the foundation for new administrative units after the district level is no longer organized to focus on improving people's lives and enhancing the quality of new rural areas.

Mr. Hoang Van Man's family (in La Dan hamlet, Van Han commune, Dong Hy) has a particularly difficult situation. Officers and soldiers of Information Brigade 601 (Military Region 1) joined hands to support money and labor to build a new house.

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households is one of the major policies of the Party and the State. Every year, from the “Fund for the Poor” and mobilizing many other resources, Dong Hy has supported hundreds of poor households with housing difficulties to build new houses and repair houses.

In order for the Program to be implemented effectively, the district has specifically directed and deployed surveys of temporary and dilapidated houses for each beneficiary, in accordance with the actual situation of each hamlet and commune; established electronic records for all households subject to review to monitor, update information, progress and support resources...

In Lan Dam village, Quang Son commune, there are 22 Mong households, of which 21 are poor and near-poor, of which 16 houses need to be repaired or renovated. When the program was implemented, the district allocated capital and construction materials suitable to the conditions and circumstances of each house, thus helping households repair and renovate their houses to be more spacious and solid.

In late June 2025, Lan Dam hamlet is urgently completing the repair of the remaining 3 houses, among dozens of houses receiving support from the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, in the excitement of the people when receiving support of 90 million VND from the District Business Association.

Vice Chairman of Dong Hy District Business Association, Mr. Do Trong Hieu shared: In the spirit of mutual love and support, businesses and philanthropists always accompany the locality to take care of people's lives. From 2024 to now, the Association has mobilized members to support and sponsor the renovation of 3 houses with a total amount of 210 million VND, and the repair of 4 houses with a total amount of 120 million VND.

The spread of the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the district has had a strong impact on individuals, agencies in the political system and professional social organizations.

Secretary of Dong Hy District Youth Union Nong Khac Huy said: The district union has mobilized funds from socialized sources; gathered local youth union members to directly contribute working days to help many households throughout the process of building houses. Up to now, 360 million VND has been mobilized to support the construction of new houses for 6 households with a support level of 60 million VND/house.

According to the report of the District People's Committee, in 2024 and the first 6 months of 2025, the whole district has combined investment sources, supported and mobilized legal resources of tens of billions of VND, tens of thousands of working days of local people and military units stationed in the area to repair and build 145 new solid houses.

In particular, the district has mobilized resources from philanthropists and businesses to support the repair and construction of temporary and dilapidated houses worth over 2.3 billion VND. With the viewpoint of "Settling down to start a career", the active participation of the entire political system and businesses inside and outside Dong Hy district has provided more resources to help the poor stabilize their lives and work with peace of mind.
