Smart parents should proactively train life skills for their children during the summer so that they can develop comprehensively. |
Create a skill "playground" for children
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra My, in Quang Trung Ward ( Thai Nguyen City) shared honestly: During the summer vacation, my husband and I still have to go to work as usual. With no one to look after our children, it is inevitable that they will use the phone and computer a lot.
This situation not only occurs in Ms. My's family but is also common in many modern families today, causing children's social communication activities, physical activities or learning "soft" skills to become blurred.
Associate Professor, Dr. Phung Thi Hang, former Head of the Department of Psychology -Education , University of Education (Thai Nguyen University) analyzed: In life, people need as many skills as there are aspects of activity. From controlling emotions, behavior, organizing work, to financial independence... These skills must be practiced early, to become the luggage to help children confidently step into life.
Instead of letting their children have a passive summer, many parents are now proactively looking for playgrounds and skill classes for their children. Swimming, presentation, MC, art, martial arts... Each class is a new space for children to practice their health, learn "soft" skills to help them become more confident and courageous.
Swimming is an essential life skill that children need to practice. |
At Thai Nguyen Children's House, we saw the bustling atmosphere of the summer classes. In the swimming pool area, the children were excited to learn techniques with the teachers. Nguyen Thi Ha Chi, 12 years old, happily said: After a week of studying, I know how to swim. I find swimming a very meaningful subject.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, a swimming teacher here, said: Swimming is a basic life skill that children need to learn early. In addition to swimming techniques, we also teach children how to handle situations in the water.
Not only swimming, presentation, dance, martial arts, MC classes… also attract a large number of young students. Pham Thi Hong Thinh, Quyet Thang commune (Thai Nguyen city) said: After the MC course, my child is no longer shy like before. The way she speaks and stands is also much more confident.
Talking to us, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, in charge of the Art Club (Thai Nguyen Children's House), said: This summer, we have expanded many talent classes, along with life skills classes. With appropriately designed programs, children not only practice skills but also discipline, confidence and the ability to work together, helping them develop comprehensively.
Family - the first "cradle" of life skills
In the small house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang, in Tan Lap Ward (Thai Nguyen City), the bookshelf is placed in the most visible place. Every day, the whole family spends time reading stories together, then discussing the characters in the books. When going to the market or doing housework, she gently teaches her children how to choose vegetables, calculate money, lessons that no school teaches, but instill the most profound discipline and life skills in children.
Ms. Trang shared: During the summer, we try to spend more time with our children to practice skills, also help them become bolder, and expand their communication circle.

Not only Ms. Trang, many parents have been forming the habit of training "soft" skills for children through simple things in daily life. In fact, from shy, introverted children, many children have become bolder: Knowing how to take the initiative to take care of themselves, help friends, and share with others. Many children not only know how to swim and confidently present, but also know how to listen and behave properly - life skills that are more valuable than any technological gadget.
Associate Professor, Dr. Phung Thi Hang emphasized: Family is the first and most sustainable educational environment for each child. At the same time, parents are living examples for children to learn important skills such as self-care, personal work arrangement, behavior and problem solving in life. Just small habits such as folding clothes, setting the table, greeting adults are also ways for children to learn to live independently, proactively and lovingly.
If the skill center is the environment for technical training, then the family is the place to sow habits and personality for children every day, every hour. Every experience, no matter how small, is a stepping stone to help children grow up. And a meaningful summer does not pass by unconsciously but is left with practical skills that will be a priceless gift that parents give to their children. From there, their life journey will be decorated with brilliant colors, lasting longer than any vacation.
