The system was built in 1981 and put into operation in 1985. It is a multi-year regulating reservoir, designed to serve multi-purpose exploitation management.
Due to the importance of Dau Tieng Lake, during the annual rainy season, the work of preventing and fighting storms and floods and releasing floodwaters from Dau Tieng Lake is of great concern to many people, especially those in the downstream area.
The water level of Dau Tieng Lake at 7:00 a.m. on July 21 was at 19.4m (lower than the normal water level of 24.4m).
According to General Director of Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited Tran Quang Hung, in order to proactively respond to unusual weather and natural disasters during the 2025 flood season, ensuring the safety of works and downstream areas, on July 1, 2025, the Company proactively developed a plan to operate Dau Tieng Lake and Phuoc Hoa Lake, which mentioned situations where the water flow to the lake suddenly increases and flood discharge is required to ensure safety, and a plan to prevent and respond to natural disasters.
On July 15, the Company issued a plan to operate and regulate water on the Phuoc Hoa - Dau Tieng canal system from now until the end of the 2025 flood season. Accordingly, starting from 7:00 a.m. on July 16, the Company will discharge flood water with a flow rate of 10 - 50m3 /s.
The Company assigned the Water and Works Management Department to coordinate with Dau Tieng - Phuoc Hoa Branch based on the hydrological forecast and warning bulletin in the basin; the current status of water level and flow to the lake, tidal developments in the downstream of Dau Tieng Lake; Dau Tieng Lake operation process to proactively and flexibly operate, ensure the safety of the project, and harmonize the objectives: water supply for production; maintain environmental flow, buffer water level on the canal to prevent floating.
On July 21, Dau Tieng Lake actively discharged floodwater with a flow rate of 36m3 /s. People in the downstream area need to pay attention to the Company's flood discharge notice.
Although Dau Tieng Lake is in flood discharge season, many people are still fishing below the main flood discharge dam, which is a very dangerous behavior.
The Company requests the People's Committees of communes where the canal passes through to inform and disseminate information to the people so that they can proactively prevent and ensure the safety of people and property. During the implementation process, if there are any changes, the Company will notify later./.
