Winning both titles in a short period of just 7 months is a testament to coach Kim Sang-sik's tactical talent.

Vietnam U23s have won the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship after defeating hosts Indonesia 1-0 in the final. With this victory, coach Kim Sang-sik has completed his collection of two major regional men's football titles, namely the 2024 ASEAN Cup (for the national team) and the Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

Thanks to this championship, Coach Kim Sang-sik became the first coach in the history of Southeast Asian football to win both the biggest titles at the men's team level, not counting the SEA Games: ASEAN Cup (formerly the AFF Cup) and the Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

This achievement was completed in just 7 months, starting with the victory at the AFF Cup 2024 with the Vietnam national team in January 2025. Before Kim Sang-sik, the two coaches who led the Vietnam team to the AFF Cup championship, Henrique Calisto (2008) and Park Hang-seo (2018), had never touched the Southeast Asian U23 championship trophy.

On the contrary, the coaches who led U23 Vietnam to win this youth tournament, such as Dinh The Nam and Hoang Anh Tuan, have never won a title at the national team level.

In his first time in charge of the Vietnam U23 team, the Korean strategist won all 4 matches in the Southeast Asian U23 tournament, conceding only 2 goals and scoring 8 goals. Previously, at the ASEAN Cup 2024, coach Kim Sang-sik's team was also the first team in history to win 7 matches in an ASEAN Cup.

At that time, Coach Kim Sang-sik became the strategist with the best achievements of Vietnamese football in an ASEAN Cup 2024, helping the team score 21 goals and only concede 6. The Vietnamese team also created an impressive milestone when it was the first team to defeat Thailand in both ASEAN Cup finals.
