The Swedish striker opened the scoring with a precise header after a pass from another new signing, Martin Zubimendi.
Playing 71 minutes on the pitch, Gyokeres showed that he was completely worthy of the great expectations that coach Arteta placed on him. This goal was not only the perfect start but also the clearest explanation for the amount of money Arsenal spent to recruit him.
After the match, coach Arteta could not hide his satisfaction, praising the 27-year-old's natural goal-scoring instinct: "That's his nature," Arteta commented. "Everything he does - from the way he moves, choosing the timing of his runs, to anticipating and finding space - all show the instinct of a goalscorer."
Arteta also admitted that Gyokeres knows how to cause problems for opposing defences: "If you give him space behind the two centre-backs, Gyokeres will destroy any defence. He is good at creating space to score goals."

With the quality additions of Gyokeres and Zubimendi, along with the impressive form of pillars such as Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, this victory is the clearest proof of Arsenal's careful preparation.
Arsenal have a strong, hungry squad, ready for an explosive season, competing for the Premier League title and going far in Europe.
Previously, the Gunners signed a £63 million contract from Sporting CP to recruit "blockbuster" Gyokeres.
Arsenal will start the new season on August 17 with a challenging trip to Old Trafford to face Man United.
