Dinh Hoa Commune is located in the coastal area of the province, possessing a rich river and lagoon system with diverse brackish and saltwater resources. Taking advantage of the soil and local advantages, the people in the commune promote the development of aquaculture and exploitation of aquatic products, especially the farming of clams, white-leg shrimp, fish... in the direction of commercial production.
Previously, farmers mainly farmed on a small scale, so the output was not stable. In recent years, with the support of Farmers' Associations at all levels, local authorities, and farmer members, they have joined together to operate under the model of cooperatives, cooperative groups, and professional associations.
Van Hai Aquaculture Cooperative is one of the typical units in promoting the role of representing collective economic models. The cooperative was established in May 2022 with the participation of 22 members, with a total aquaculture area of over 30 hectares.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Director of Van Hai Aquaculture Cooperative, shared: “Since the establishment of the cooperative, members have regularly exchanged experiences, updated new farming techniques, coordinated in product consumption and had access to capital and input materials. Thanks to that, after 3 years of operation, the cooperative has built a stable production foundation in terms of scale, technology and economic efficiency.”
To ensure a closed process from breeding to selling, the cooperative determines that the output products must meet clean standards. Members strictly control from the stage of importing breeds to the care and breeding process, recording production logs, measures to ensure food safety and hygiene, assessing the disease situation, prevention measures..., helping the breeds to grow healthily, and the products are highly appreciated by traders.
Through regular meetings, technical training and study tours, members of the cooperative have formed a production mindset according to the value chain. Some households have boldly expanded their farming areas, combining many farming objects such as fish and freshwater white-leg shrimp, making the most of the water surface and minimizing risks. Many households that previously had small-scale production, lacked techniques and had unstable outputs have now become proactive in investing, applying new technologies, and linking product consumption.
The income of the members of the cooperative has improved significantly. The average household profit increased by 20 to 30% per year, and no member suffered losses or serious risks in production.
Van Hai Aquaculture Cooperative has become a trusted address to organize training courses, transfer science and technology, visit and introduce models to farmer members inside and outside the commune.
Not only focusing on production, members also actively participate in social activities and new rural construction. In 2023-2024, from production profits, the cooperative contributed 15 million VND and many working days to build cultural houses, concrete roads, canals as well as gratitude and social security activities in the locality.
In the gardens along the Day River (Khanh Trung Commune), the lush green vegetable beds of Khanh Thanh Safe Agricultural Products Production and Consumption Cooperative stand out. The cooperative was established in 2016 with 275 members, specializing in producing vegetables according to VietGap standards, ensuring food safety.
The cooperative's products were recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards in 2019, with electronic stamps and barcodes for traceability, and consumed at safe agricultural product stores in and outside the province.
Mr. Pham Van Tuyen, Director of the Cooperative said: “Understanding the psychology of consumers who are increasingly demanding on the origin and quality of food, and the abundant agricultural land of Khanh Thanh commune (old), our members and farmers have established the Cooperative to cooperate and support each other in the production and trading of safe vegetables, creating jobs and increasing income. The Cooperative specializes in producing clean seasonal vegetables and fruits such as: guava, cucumber, tomato, squash, green pumpkin, Japanese squash…”.
Since the establishment of the cooperative, members have been trained in production according to VietGAP process, focusing on linkage in consumption, so products are produced and consumed at stable prices. In 2024, the total output of agricultural products supplied to the market will reach 2,532 tons, the estimated value will reach 18 billion VND, the total revenue of households participating in the cooperative will reach about 600 million VND/ha/year. Khanh Thanh Safe Agricultural Products Production and Consumption Cooperative was honored by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union as one of 63 outstanding cooperatives nationwide in 2024.
Over the past 5 years, the collective economic sector has had positive changes. Cooperatives, cooperative groups, associations, and professional associations in the province have increased in both quantity and quality, investment scale has expanded, and the fields of operation are rich and diverse.
Many collective economic models effectively exploit the strengths of local land and climate, innovate, proactively apply scientific and technological advances in production and business, expand services, and improve quality to improve operational efficiency and competitiveness.
