Phu Tho Department of Transport has just reported to Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee about the investment plan to build a new Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C.

According to the proposal of the design consultant, Transport Design Consulting Corporation - JSC (TEDI), the new Phong Chau bridge will be built at the location of the old Phong Chau bridge (Km18+300 National Highway 32C).

The total length of the Project is about 1 km, of which the new Phong Chau bridge is 400 m long; the approach road to Phong Chau bridge connects with the inter-regional traffic route with a length of 600 m, designed to ensure compliance with the planning of Phu Tho province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

In particular, the new Phong Chau bridge is designed according to the balanced cantilever bridge plan of reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete; the total length of the bridge to the 2 abutment ends is 393.5 m; the total width of the bridge is 21.5 m (including 4 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles, median strip, safety strip and bridge railing); span diagram (90+135+90)+(33+33) m.

The approach road to Phong Chau bridge connects with the inter-regional traffic route, which is designed to be upgraded and expanded to ensure the scale of a level III plain road, with a design speed of 80km/h.

The total investment for the new Phong Chau Bridge construction project is 875 billion VND, invested from the Central Budget.

In order to promptly resolve the traffic disruption, help people stabilize their lives and production, and contribute to promoting socio -economic development; Phu Tho Department of Transport requests Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee to report to competent authorities for guidance on the procedures for implementing the investment in the construction of the new Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C in the form of emergency public investment.

Phu Tho Department of Transport also requested to apply a special mechanism in the organization of selecting contractors to implement all project packages in the form of shortened bidding to speed up the progress of investment and construction implementation.

Late last week, the Vietnam Road Administration approved a budget of more than VND9 billion to salvage the old Phong Chau bridge and the vehicles involved in the bridge collapse.

Vietnam Road Administration assigned Phu Tho Provincial Department of Transport to be the project implementation unit, to carry out procedures for appointing construction contractors, and to manage project progress and quality.
