Many journalists and many people working in other fields remember and often quote the famous saying “Bright eyes - Pure heart - Sharp pen” when talking or writing about journalists and the journalism profession. This is a famous saying of the late journalist Huu Tho when talking about the noble, glorious and arduous journalism profession: “ To do this job, you must have bright eyes, a pure heart, and a sharp pen to succeed ”. He considered it “A few words of confidence to share with those new to the profession so that we can think together and “keep the family tradition”.

Bright eyes are a requirement, a crystallization of the journalist's awareness, intelligence, vision, courage, worldview , and outlook on life. To have bright eyes, journalists must have broad knowledge, to be able to discover new things, beautiful things - even if they are just emerging in life - to praise, encourage, motivate, and replicate, things that others can see but do not recognize . To have bright eyes, " one must have political courage to consider and evaluate the issues raised in life". "The knowledge that journalists use is knowledge from life, specific life in each specific field with the depth of their life that has been accumulated over many years. That is a very important characteristic of journalists"; “When you analyze life, of course you have to combine it with viewpoints and guidelines, but they must be viewpoints and guidelines that have been thoroughly absorbed in life… You have to have a very deep understanding of life. If you don’t go into life, how can you understand it? Only with bright eyes can one sense and predict good things that can become a trend, a noble way of life, from small things that seem very normal, hidden in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Only with bright eyes can a journalist make judgments, to quickly and decisively go to find out, investigate, write articles, and promptly prevent bad, negative, evil things... from the seeds of thoughts and actions that others may ignore. Only with bright eyes can one sense a model, a movement, an inevitability... from a small act of kindness, a good initiative, an effective work of an ordinary worker. Bright eyes are discerning eyes, so that journalists can see the unusual in things that seem normal, as well as the "unchangeable" in the "ever-changing". Like a fisherman, one must have a "very deep understanding of life" through the experience of "eating the waves and talking to the wind" on the fishing grounds, and have clear eyes to be able to judge and know the direction of movement of a large school of fish just by looking at the flow of the water.
Journalist Huu Tho wrote: “Unlike any other profession, in our journalism profession, the profession is always associated with ideals. A good article, a beautiful photo is not only about the effort of description, the effort of choosing the sun and clouds, but also about what it says in the depth of the mind of the person doing the job and what it touches and convinces”. I think that “depth of mind” that he mentioned is what makes a journalist “bright-eyed”.

Bright eyes are the political perspective, attitude, and vision of journalists, so that journalists can assume the role of social criticism, social forecasting, and guiding and leading public opinion. Bright eyes make journalists "always see something about everything and see everything about something" (words of a famous journalist in Russia).
The heart is about professional ethics, journalistic ethics. According to him, “For journalism, the heart of the person doing the job is very important. Any job must have a heart in the work, the project… The heart, first of all, is honesty and compassion, must be present right when processing information. Support or criticism, saying right or saying wrong - even if it is hasty to respond to current events - should be understood as covering everything is the heart. If you criticize someone but have an honest, kind heart, then the criticized person will understand and admonish himself, even if he is punished, he will not regret. If you praise someone but have an honest and kind heart, then the pen will not fall into the injustice of "lifting one person to put down another", or praising to the point of flattery and sycophancy. He said, "It is difficult to hone talent, keeping the heart clean, always pure, honest, straightforward, in my opinion is even more difficult. Especially in the market mechanism, money and "false reputation" are very tempting.
A pure heart is also a “heart without dirt”, not considering journalism as a place to get rich, not using a press card as a tool to make money from people. A journalist who “criticizes others but has a straightforward and kind heart”, is a “pure heart”, “a bright heart”, not like “Some journalists look for negativity to be negative”, not a “reporter who counts floors”, and certainly not making up stories, setting traps to blackmail characters as is often seen on television.
In today's society, there are journalists with unclear minds and hearts but sharp pens, who specialize in digging up negative information to write articles, using that information to threaten for personal gain, so there is a saying "fear the newspaper more than fear the tiger", meaning that they classify some of those journalists as wild animals in the jungle. Isn't it sad to hear that story, to hear sentences like "Those journalists" and feel heartbroken.
Therefore, the position of journalism, a journalist with a cloudy heart, unclear mind, when having a position, having a good job, can easily become an unpredictable disaster.
Sharp pen is the profession of a journalist, the practice of professional skills of a journalist. Journalist Huu Tho talked to journalists who are about to enter the profession: “To do this job, it is necessary to practice the pen, practice holding the camera, holding the recording tools, recording sound and images to create excellent journalistic works… The way of describing, choosing the scene, choosing the time to press the shutter, must reach a certain level to be able to clearly and deeply express the ideas and feelings of the writer and the person pressing the shutter. The saying “One art mastered, one life of glory” advises everyone to practice their profession wholeheartedly. One must be good at the profession, because only by being good at the profession can one have profound and attractive journalistic works to serve the ideal effectively through influencing millions of viewers and readers”.

With enthusiasm, responsibility and constant innovation, the team of journalists in Quang Ninh has been and is continuing to affirm its important role, closely following the basic principles of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism. To maintain "clear eyes", journalists always go deep into practice, closely following the grassroots. Instead of just sitting "writing from the desk", the team of journalists in Quang Ninh often penetrate into real life, present at hot spots, remote areas, construction sites, factories, border areas, islands... to record information in the most authentic way. At the same time, they constantly learn, improve their professional and technical qualifications, update their knowledge on all aspects of social life, from economics, politics to culture, science, technology... From there, they have a profound, multi-dimensional view of issues and events, avoiding one-sidedness.

The team of journalists of Quang Ninh Newspaper as well as reporters of central newspapers stationed in the area regularly participate in training courses on journalism, especially new journalism genres such as multimedia journalism, data journalism; skills in producing dynamic infographics, video data, mobile journalism or professional podcasting... to present complex information in an intuitive and easy-to-understand way. Quang Ninh journalists are dedicated to reflecting pressing social issues, shortcomings in management, but always maintain an objective and constructive attitude, in order to promote sustainable development and bring practical benefits to the people.
In particular, in a complex information environment and under the pressure of the profession, the Quang Ninh journalists always practice political courage, maintain their stance, and do not let themselves be bribed, enticed or bent for personal or group interests. Professional activities and seminars on journalistic ethics are regularly held to strengthen this "pure heart". In the digital age, keeping a "pure heart" is also demonstrated through standard behavior on social networks, not spreading fake news, bad news, and not participating in divisive and provocative activities.

The history of Quang Ninh press has spanned 96 years, starting from the end of 1928 with the birth of Than Newspaper. This is considered the first local Party newspaper in Vietnam, the predecessor of today's Quang Ninh Newspaper.
