Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force of Hue City Police trained to improve rescue skills

Although it has just started in the summer, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department has developed and implemented a training plan to improve the capacity of rescue for officers and soldiers in the unit and the grassroots fire prevention and rescue force with the content of instructing personal techniques, methods, measures, and rescue techniques for some situations such as building collapse, drowning, etc.

In the Huong River area, from 8am to 10am and 2pm to 5pm every day, officers and soldiers of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Team are present to train swimming skills and rescue drowning people.

“To ensure safety and effectiveness when rescuing drowning people in reality, at the training class, students are trained in swimming and diving skills, how to use diving equipment; rescuing drowning people, how to bring victims to shore; first aid methods for drowning people when there is no medical staff. All training contents are closely researched to match real-life rescue situations,” Major Tran Trong Bang, Captain of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Hue City Police, informed.

To respond promptly to incidents and ensure the safety of rescue forces, in addition to improving drowning rescue skills, every year, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department also organizes training courses on skills and methods to rescue victims of fires, landslides, and victims trapped in high-rise buildings, cars, etc.

In fact, thanks to good training in search and rescue skills, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force has directly participated in search and rescue, promptly rescuing victims of accidents. In the past 5 years, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force has participated in search and rescue of 167 incidents and accidents in the area; thereby, saving 53 people and searching and rescuing more than 85 victims of drowning and traffic accidents.

Most of the fires, accidents and incidents occur in hard-to-reach areas such as wells, rivers, streams, lakes, collapsed buildings, in motor vehicles or in harsh environments that do not ensure safety conditions such as floods and fires. The most recent example was in early June, after receiving a report of a traffic accident on the Hue bypass and a victim trapped in a car unable to escape, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department urgently dispatched 4 fire trucks and rescue vehicles along with 21 officers and soldiers to quickly arrive at the scene to carry out rescue work. After a short time, the soldiers successfully rescued 3 trapped victims and coordinated with medical forces to take them to Hue Central Hospital for emergency treatment.

Also in June, in the A A stream area, Hong Ha commune (A Luoi district), an incident occurred in which 4 people were trapped in a dump truck under the stream bed. After receiving the news, 20 officers and soldiers with specialized equipment quickly arrived at the scene. After nearly 2 hours of struggling in the floodwaters, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police force brought the 4 people to shore safely.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Phan Thanh Phong, Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Hue City Police, rescue work when incidents, accidents, and natural disasters occur is an extremely dangerous task. For major incidents, accidents, and natural disasters that must be carried out over a long period of time, the risk of secondary accidents for the rescue force is very high. Therefore, each officer and soldier of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, in addition to having good physical strength, being proficient in professional skills, and being flexible in situations, must also have the courage and bravery to rescue safely and effectively, minimizing possible damage to people and property.
