Latest durian price news
In the first 6 months of 2025, durian exports to China faced major obstacles when many shipments were returned due to containing banned substances. As a result, durian prices fell sharply, in some places by 40-50% compared to 2024, causing losses for growers.
Overuse of phosphate fertilizers, containing phosphorus, during the flowering stage is the main cause of cadmium accumulation in durian trees and fruits. In adverse weather conditions, farmers often apply phosphate fertilizers multiple times, increasing this risk. Acidic soils (low pH) also make cadmium more soluble, leading to higher plant uptake.
Cadmium control solutions:
Improve soil pH: Use lime or neutralizers to reduce acidity, limit cadmium solubility and increase nutrient absorption.
Use fertilizers properly: Reduce the amount of phosphate fertilizer, replace it with organic fertilizer from agricultural waste.
Environmental monitoring: Authorities should survey cadmium contamination in major durian growing areas. Farms should periodically test soil to detect and treat cadmium residues early.
