Rice price today March 28: Rice price turns to increase, rice is stable

In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices continue to compete with major exporting countries. 5% broken rice is currently offered at $400/ton, close to Thailand’s $401/ton and $4/ton higher than the same type of rice from India. Meanwhile, Pakistani rice remains the lowest priced at only $391/ton.

Faced with the constantly fluctuating rice market, the Vietnamese Government has asked ministries and sectors to intervene to regulate supply and demand, ensuring sustainable export activities. Enterprises are also supported to access capital to purchase and temporarily store rice for export, contributing to keeping domestic rice prices stable.

Internationally, Thailand continues to be the largest rice supplier to the US, with exports increasing compared to last year. India has also just finished a bumper crop, achieving a record total output of more than 278 million tons of rice in the 2024–2025 crop year. As a result, the country lifted the ban on broken rice exports from March 7 and is ready to export about 2 million tons to the market, mainly to Africa and China.

However, even though India returns to the market, the impact on global rice prices is expected to be small as world supply is quite abundant.
