Summer-Autumn 2025 rice price increased compared to the beginning of the crop

Currently, rice prices are increasing, but many farmers in Dong Thap Muoi area of Tay Ninh province do not benefit because many areas of Summer-Autumn (HT) 2025 rice have been harvested before.

According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the 2025 winter-spring crop, the whole province sowed nearly 263,000 hectares of rice, reaching 98% of the plan. Up to now, nearly 65,000 hectares have been harvested, with an estimated rice yield of 5.88 tons/ha and an estimated output of nearly 380,000 tons.

Compared to the beginning of the season, rice prices have increased by 200-500 VND/kg depending on the variety. Specifically, the current price of fresh rice IR50404 is from 5,500-5,700 VND/kg; IR4625 glutinous rice is from 6,800-7,100 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 is from 6,000-6,500 VND/kg; OM18 is from 6,200-6,500 VND/kg; OM5451 is from 5,300-6,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ninh (Khanh Hung commune, Tay Ninh province) has just harvested 3 hectares of OM18 rice variety, yielding more than 6 tons/ha, selling price 6,500 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, he earned a profit of about 14 million VND/ha. Although rice prices have increased, many farmers have not benefited because some rice areas have been harvested before.

Vice Chairman of Khanh Hung Commune People's Committee Nguyen Hoang Em said: "In the 2025 winter-spring rice crop, the whole commune planted nearly 11,900 hectares. Up to now, farmers in the area have harvested nearly 11,000 hectares, with a yield of 5-6.5 tons/ha, selling prices ranging from 5,900-7,500 VND/kg (depending on the variety), after deducting costs, farmers earn a profit of 5-15 million VND/ha".

Currently, the whole province still has nearly 200,000 hectares of HT 2025 rice and nearly 30,000 hectares of 2025 Autumn-Winter rice that have not been harvested. In the fields, pests and diseases have arisen and caused damage such as leaf blast, grain smut, and leaf blight.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment focuses on directing the prevention and control of pests and diseases on rice, strengthening propaganda and mobilizing farmers to regularly visit fields to promptly detect pests and diseases in order to take preventive and control measures./.
