Many farmers who are harvesting rice said that for fields with fallen rice, the price for cutting is 400,000 VND/cong, and for fields with standing rice, the price is 350,000 VND/cong, an increase of 50,000 VND/cong compared to before storm No. 3.
In addition to the high cost of cutting, the yield in the fallen rice fields is only 500-600kg/cong, about 100kg/cong lower than in the fields where the rice did not fall. The reason for the decrease is that during the harvesting process, the cutting machine cannot harvest all the fallen areas and can only cut the upper part.
In addition to the decrease in productivity and quality of rice and the increase in cutting costs, the purchase price of fresh rice in recent days has also decreased by an average of 100-200 VND/kg compared to the price that farmers had previously received as a deposit from rice brokers or traders. Currently, traders are purchasing fresh rice in the field for the Dai Thom 8 variety at a price of 8,000-8,100 VND/kg.
Currently, farmers in Hau Giang province have harvested nearly 72,000 hectares out of a total of nearly 74,200 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice that have been sown, with an estimated average yield of nearly 6.2 tons/ha. Currently, the unharvested Summer-Autumn rice area is concentrated in Long My district. Farmers here are taking advantage of the favorable weather to speed up the rice cutting process to reduce yield losses, especially in fallen rice fields.
