Double valedictorian
This girl is Dang Thi Kieu Oanh, a double valedictorian. Oanh is the valedictorian of the entrance exam (2020-2021 school year) and also the valedictorian of the branch of the University of Water Resources in Ho Chi Minh City. This new engineer said that the reason she chose to study water supply and drainage engineering is because she had witnessed images of flooding in her hometown (Tuy Phuoc town, Tuy Phuoc district, Binh Dinh province) since she was a child. Oanh hopes to become someone who can help solve the flooding situation not only in her hometown but also in other localities.
"From desire came a dream, and I was determined to pursue that dream. Luckily, I was admitted to university in the major I liked, so studying became easier. From the first year of entering the lecture hall until the last lessons of my student life, I always tried my best. Not only to achieve high scores, but also to accumulate knowledge, when graduating, to apply it in practice, solving problems related to water supply and drainage", Oanh said.

Recently, this new engineer graduated from university with an excellent degree, achieving an impressive GPA of 3.61/4. For many years, Oanh has also continuously received excellent scholarships, excelled in each semester, and maintained her position as the leading student in the field of water supply and drainage engineering.
The double valedictorian shared her secret to studying well as a student: "Entering the university environment, the decisive factor that makes a difference and helps you become better is diligence, effort, perseverance, progress and always setting clear goals. For example, in each subject, each exam, you need to set goals to aim for and be determined to achieve them."
Oanh continued: "There will be times when this subject feels difficult, that subject is boring... But don't be sad, see it as an opportunity to overcome difficulties, to hone your character and will."
Not only is Kieu Quang a good student, she also has an admirable record of achievements. This new female engineer won first prize in the Water Industry Competition in the 2022-2023 school year, represented the school in national academic competitions such as: Math Olympiad, student scientific research... and won many high awards.
Besides, the girl from Binh Dinh province is also active in Youth Union and Association activities, especially always pioneering in volunteer activities, living for the community...
Want to solve the problems related to water supply and drainage
Oanh shared that she has received questions about why girls choose a relatively strange major, a field usually reserved for boys?
"But in my opinion, every field needs female human resources. I want to work in the field of water supply and drainage because I realize that this industry has great significance for urban life and the environment, as well as because of its practicality and connection to life, especially in my hometown, where water supply and drainage infrastructure still has many shortcomings. I want to contribute to changing that," Oanh shared.
According to Oanh, the water supply and drainage sector has seen many positive changes in recent years. However, urban flooding is still evident due to rapid urbanization, the impact of climate change, rising sea levels, lack of regulating lakes, lack of green spaces, water storage space, rapid concrete cover at the same time as complex climate change...
"That's why my dream is still the same as when I entered university, which is to contribute to solving water supply and drainage problems. Now, with the knowledge I have, I believe that I can conquer that dream, contributing to the development of the country in the era of national development," Oanh confided.
As a lecturer who taught and directly guided Dang Thi Kieu Oanh's graduation project, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dang An (lecturer of water supply and drainage engineering, Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the University of Water Resources), commented: "I highly appreciate Oanh's serious learning spirit, coherent scientific thinking, and receptive and responsible working attitude. This girl is very proactive, has the ability to work independently, always prepares carefully, listens and edits seriously. Her graduation project is of high technical quality, demonstrates innovative thinking and aims for sustainable and applicable solutions."
