A house - a dream come true
"Thanks to the Military Command of An Giang province, my family's dream of having a solid house has come true," Mr. Danh Hong (Giong Rieng commune, An Giang province) emotionally shared when we visited him in the spacious, 90m2 "House of Gratitude" level 4 that was just presented by the Military Command of An Giang province.
Previously, Mr. Danh Hong's family lived in a dilapidated temporary house. With no job, Mr. Hong had to work for a living. Daily living expenses were still difficult, so despite saving for many years, his family still did not have enough to build a new house. Understanding the family's situation, the An Giang Provincial Military Command consulted, mobilized, and supported 60 million VND through the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses to help his family have a new, spacious house.

Each new house is a dream come true for households with housing difficulties. Therefore, attending the handover ceremonies of new houses in the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses of agencies and units throughout the army, we feel the excitement and happiness of the families. For example, recently, at the handover ceremony of gratitude houses in Giang 2 village, Huong Xuan commune, Ha Tinh province, after receiving the handover decision from the leaders of the Ban Giang Border Guard Station, Ha Tinh Provincial Border Guard, Ms. Ho Thi Huong (a Chut ethnic, head of the family that received the house) emotionally shared with us: "Never before has my family celebrated Tet as happily as this year, because the Ban Giang Border Guard Station and benefactors built a new, solid and spacious house. Once settled, my family will try to develop the economy , eliminate hunger and reduce poverty to repay the gratitude of the soldiers".
Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has become a revolutionary movement that has spread widely throughout the entire army and has become a "command from the heart", the conscience and responsibility to the community of the Army officers and soldiers towards households with housing difficulties across the country. Implementing the movement, as of June 2025, the entire army has mobilized and supported funding to build and repair more than 17,000 houses, with a total amount of more than 895 billion VND (excluding the number of houses under Project 80). Of which, the Ministry of National Defense directly supported 11,650 houses, with a total amount of 601 billion VND; supported construction funding for nearly 1,730 soldiers, workers, defense officials, and contract workers working in the Army who have housing difficulties with a total amount of nearly 106 billion VND; Units throughout the army have deployed support to build and repair 3,650 houses, with a total amount of more than 188 billion VND... The new houses replace temporary and dilapidated houses, contributing to improving the quality of life, reducing difficulties for disadvantaged families, and being a support for confidence, arousing the will and determination to overcome difficulties and strengthening the love for comrades and compatriots.
Determined to complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses
In order to carry out the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, recently, agencies and units of the whole army have deployed many effective measures and methods to contribute to reducing costs, improving the quality of use and the lifespan of houses in the movement.

Mr. Danh Hong happily shared with us that from the 60 million VND donated by the Provincial Military Command and 30 million VND from relatives and families, only about 2/3 of the total construction cost was covered. The remaining cost was thanks to the Provincial Military Command consulting and coordinating with local authorities to mobilize local agencies, units, cadres, soldiers, and militia forces to join hands to contribute labor, effort, and money to reduce costs and improve the quality of the house.
With the motto “each house is a gift”, “a love”, “a warm home”, agencies and units of the whole army have promoted propaganda work for officers and soldiers to have a correct understanding of the Party, State and Ministry of National Defense’s policy on the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide; coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to do a good job of informing and propagating to the people about the purpose, meaning and humanity of the movement. From there, it is necessary to determine the determination and responsibility of not only officers, employees and soldiers but also all the people to join hands, join forces and unite with the spirit of “whoever has merit helps merit, whoever has property helps property, whoever has something helps”.
In implementation, agencies and units concretize the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses into specific tasks in the movements "Smart mass mobilization", "Army joins hands to build new countryside", "Army joins hands for the poor, leaving no one behind"... Thereby, promptly supporting funding to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, build gratitude houses, comrade houses, great solidarity houses to help soldiers, workers, defense officials, laborers in the armed forces and poor households, near-poor households in difficult circumstances, without housing or with dilapidated, degraded housing, severely damaged by natural disasters.

At the conference to evaluate the results of the implementation of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses of the Army in 2025, Lieutenant General Truong Thien To, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), said that implementing the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025", the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army has led, directed, and guided agencies and units to closely coordinate with Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front Committee, and socio-political organizations to grasp the situation, conduct surveys, select, and promptly support funding to build gratitude houses, comrade houses, and great solidarity houses to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.
In the coming time, the entire army is determined to continue to promote the implementation of the movement according to the viewpoint of "6 clear" (clear people, clear work, clear responsibility, clear authority, clear time, clear results) and "4 real" (tell the truth, do the truth, real effectiveness, people enjoy the truth). Do a good job of consulting, coordinating propaganda, mobilizing forces, organizations, and individuals to actively support (human resources, material resources) determined to join hands and unite with the entire Party and people to achieve the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide.
