Virtue - Talent - Heart: Portrait of a great man of the nation

First of all, General Vo Nguyen Giap's virtue shines as an exemplary model. He was absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the people, always putting the common interest above all else. From the early days of the revolution, Vo Nguyen Giap lived a pure, simple life, indifferent to fame and fortune. Even when he assumed the position of Commander-in-Chief, his comrades still affectionately called him "Brother Van". That quality made the people not only respect but also love him.

The General's talent created glorious pages of history. From a history teacher, he became an outstanding Commander-in-Chief, commanding immortal campaigns: the 1950 Border Campaign, the 1954 Dien Bien Phu victory that "resounded throughout the five continents, shook the earth", the 1975 Ho Chi Minh Campaign that unified the country. His military thinking combined Vietnamese wisdom with world military art, taking people as the root, considering people as the decisive factor.

In the article Commemorating the Dien Bien Phu victory published in Nhan Dan Newspaper on May 7, 1963, President Ho Chi Minh quoted Berna Phan: For the French colonialists, "it was both a heavy political defeat and an extremely disastrous military defeat, because it was the first time a colonial power was defeated by a colony."

Not stopping at the military field, the General also had a long-term vision in education, science, and culture, leaving behind many valuable research works.

But perhaps, what made him immortal in the hearts of the nation was the General's heart. It was a benevolent and humane heart, always loving his comrades, teammates and people. He believed that all victories belonged to the people, were created by the people; leaders were only those who represented the people in commanding the army. No matter what position he held, he cared about every soldier, wounded soldier, even children in the highlands or the poor. That is why he was called by the respectful and affectionate name: "General of the people".

The three values of Virtue, Talent, and Heart have blended together to create a portrait of a great man: an outstanding leader, an exemplary personality, a great heart of the Vietnamese people.

Spiritual Heritage: A Torch to Light the Way for Today's Youth

The Virtue, Talent, and Heart of General Vo Nguyen Giap are not only a story of history, but also a priceless spiritual heritage for the young generation of Vietnam in the era of integration.

From Duc, young people learn honesty, courage and ideals. In a changing society, where material values easily lead people astray, the General's moral example is a reminder of responsibility and steadfastness in the right. The General once emphasized: "Every day I live, is for the country." That is a profound lesson for today's youth: if you want to contribute to the country, you must first cultivate your personality and keep your mind pure.

From Tai, the young generation learns the aspiration to rise up, the will to master knowledge and technology. The General started out as an ordinary teacher, but thanks to his love of learning, creativity and determination, he became an outstanding Commander-in-Chief. In the 4.0 industrial revolution, young people need to study, research, innovate continuously, dare to think, dare to do to help Vietnam catch up and surpass in many fields.

From the heart, young people learn a humane, loving, and sharing way of life. The General once said: "Victory requires boldness, but does not accept any adventurous actions", "The greatest happiness of a military leader is to be with soldiers on the battlefield". That teaching is still valid today. Young people need to know how to live for others, for the community, together cultivating solidarity and humanity so that society becomes more civilized and better.

It can be said that the General's legacy is a "compass" for Vietnamese youth; reminding that: a generation can only truly mature when it knows how to nurture Virtue, practice Talent and keep its Heart intact.

* * *

General Vo Nguyen Giap has passed away, but his Virtue, Talent, and Heart will live forever with the nation. His name is not only recorded in history books, but also engraved in the hearts of millions of Vietnamese people and international friends.

For today’s youth, learning from and following the General’s example is not a general call, but a practical action: cultivating virtue, cultivating talent, and maintaining a compassionate heart to serve the Fatherland. That is the way to cherish and continue the precious legacy that the General left for future generations.
