This official visit to Vietnam by the President of the Swiss National Council demonstrates Switzerland's respect for Vietnam. Switzerland wishes to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of economics and trade, and strives towards signing a Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

For Vietnam, welcoming the President of the Swiss National Council aims to affirm Vietnam's consistent policy of always attaching importance to the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Switzerland; wishing to deepen the close and trusting relationship between the two countries in all fields; promoting economic - trade - investment cooperation; at the same time wishing to soon complete and put into effect the EFTA Agreement; further promoting cooperation between the two countries' legislative bodies, making bilateral parliamentary cooperation increasingly effective and substantive.
