On the afternoon of July 16, Lam Dong provincial leaders had a working session with Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) on the plan to repair and invest in upgrading Lien Khuong international airport.

According to ACV, Lien Khuong airport infrastructure is deteriorating, affecting the frequency of operations. According to the previously announced plan, ACV will repair Lien Khuong airport from November 2025, with a repair period of 6 months.

At the meeting, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi emphasized that temporarily closing the airport for construction would greatly affect tourism and budget revenue. Therefore, it is necessary to have appropriate plans to limit the impact on local socio -economic development.

Mr. Vu The Phiet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation, emphasized that the airport is currently showing signs of degradation and is in dire need of renovation and upgrading.

In response to Lam Dong province's proposal to postpone the airport closure until 2026, when key transport projects connecting Lam Dong province have been completed and to minimize the impact on the province's socio-economic activities during the peak period at the end of the year, Mr. Vu The Phiet pledged to seek solutions to continue maintaining the airport's operations until the end of 2025, starting to close for repairs and upgrades in March 2026 and completing before the rainy season.

In the first 6 months of 2025, Lien Khuong airport served about 1 million passengers. By 2030, this number is expected to exceed 3.5 million passengers per year, with an average growth rate of 10%.

ACV believes that upgrading Lien Khuong International Airport is not only a solution to immediate problems but also an investment for the future. ACV plans to invest VND3,700 billion to build a new passenger terminal and other synchronous items, increasing the service capacity to more than 5 million passengers/year after 2030.

Previously, during the working session with the delegation of General Secretary To Lam, Lam Dong Provincial Party Secretary Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam proposed investing in upgrading Lien Khuong international airport from 4D standard to 4E standard to serve tourism and export of high-tech agricultural products.

Lien Khuong Airport is the first international airport in the Central Highlands region since June 2024, with a scale of level 4E, and an expected design capacity of about 5 million passengers per year.
