Comrade To Lam was elected General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee.

On the morning of August 3, in Hanoi , the 13th Party Central Committee met to introduce personnel and elect the General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee.

Comrade Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member and Prime Minister, on behalf of the Politburo, chaired the Conference.

At the Conference, based on the Party's regulations and on the Politburo's personnel introduction orientation, the Central Committee promoted a sense of responsibility, focused on intelligence, discussed democratically, respected and reached a very high consensus with 100% of the votes to elect Comrade To Lam, Politburo member, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to hold the position of General Secretary of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

General Secretary To Lam delivered a speech affirming the inheritance and promotion of the revolutionary achievements that the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and previous generations of leaders had built; maintaining solidarity and unity and, together with the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat, determined to lead and direct the entire Party, people and army to successfully implement the goals and tasks set by the 13th National Party Congress, successfully organize the 14th Congress, and bring the country to steady development in the new period.
