Vietnam team does not go to Asian Cup for tourism

Midfielder Do Hung Dung is the representative player of the Vietnamese team attending the press conference before the match against Japan. He affirmed that the Vietnamese team will do everything to achieve the best result in tomorrow's match.

" We know Japan is in the top of the world . But we are not here to enjoy like traveling but to work. The team is preparing carefully for both tomorrow's match and the next 2 matches ," Hung Dung expressed.

" We have a plan to defend against Japan. The players will try to create even the smallest opportunity and maybe take advantage of it. We believe in our ability. Tomorrow we will do well the task that the coach sets out ."

Hung Dung promoted the team's fighting spirit at the 2023 Asian Cup.

Do Hung Dung is one of the 5 remaining players from the 2019 Asian Cup. Just like 5 years ago, he and his teammates will meet 2 of the 3 opponents in the group stage, Japan and Iraq. Therefore, the opportunity to win a place in the next round is not easy.

" This is my second time participating in the Asian Cup, and so are a few of my teammates. The rest are young players who are participating in the tournament for the first time. We will face many strong teams in a difficult group.

Over the past 8-9 months, we have been training with the new coach and have become more proficient in our playing style. This is an opportunity for us to show our level, although we had difficulties due to some injuries before the tournament and a tight domestic schedule. We have improved step by step, through friendly matches, so the team is ready for the Asian Cup ," Hung Dung added.

The Japanese team is ranked 17th in the world, while the Vietnamese team is ranked 94th. This difference shows the difference in class between the two teams. Coach Troussier himself admitted that the chances of winning for the Vietnamese team are not high. However, he has come up with tactics to cause difficulties and look for surprises against Japan.

" Against an opponent like Japan with many stars, we have to play counter-attack. The important thing is how to counter-attack to make it difficult for them, disrupt their playing style, cut off the connection between the lines, making them lose confidence and get into trouble, " the French coach shared.

The match between Vietnam and Japan will start at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, January 14.
