Accompanying people to help eliminate hunger and reduce poverty
Over the past years, in parallel with the task of training and combat readiness, Economic-Defense Group 337 has always closely followed its functions and tasks, actively coordinated with localities to deploy many solutions and methods focusing on supporting people's livelihoods. Thanks to that, the lives of thousands of ethnic minority households in extremely disadvantaged communes of Dakrong and Huong Hoa districts have been improved, contributing to sustainable hunger eradication and poverty reduction.
After getting married, the life of Mr. Ho Van Rai and his wife in Chenh Venh village, Huong Phung commune, Huong Hoa district encountered countless difficulties. Due to lack of production knowledge and no capital, poverty continued to haunt the family. Understanding and sharing Mr. Rai's situation, at the end of 2023, from project programs, Economic-Defense Group 337 supported 3 breeding goats. After a period of care, Mr. Rai's herd of goats grew to 6, of which 4 were sold to local people.
“In addition to supporting goat breeds, the soldiers also instructed me on how to raise, care for, and build barns for breeding goats. They also came to my house every week to check and provide medicine to prevent and treat diseases. From the money I earned from selling the goats, I will invest in developing the herd, creating a stable source of income for my family. Thank you very much, soldiers of unit 337,” Rai shared.
Rai's family is just one of more than 2,000 households in 34 villages and hamlets in Dakrong and Huong Hoa districts supported by Economic-Defense Group 337. Over the past 5 years, people have been supported to participate in 8 models with many projects to create raw material areas and commodity products. From there, their thinking, thinking, and working methods have been gradually changed, contributing to reducing the annual poverty rate in the locality from 3.5% - 4%.
Captain of Production Team 9, Regiment 52, Economic-Defense Group 337, Lieutenant Colonel Vo Van Bay said that through socio-economic development projects under the National Target Program on Socio-economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, the unit has developed plans and guidelines for implementation.
Focusing on transferring, training techniques, supporting seedlings, agricultural tools, and agricultural materials for thousands of households in 13 communes in Huong Hoa and Dakrong districts with a value of over 25 billion VND; coordinating well in managing, protecting, and preventing forest fires. Replicating economic models of raising cows, goats, galangal, coffee, and rice... Thereby, promoting local socio-economic development and improving people's lives.
Imprints from specific actions
In the journey of carrying out the tasks of border protection and economic development in remote areas, the "skillful mass mobilization" activity has become a bright spot in the military-civilian work of the 337th Economic-Defense Group. The unit has established regular working groups and teams to "stick to the people, stick to the villages, stick to the area", implementing well the motto of "eating together, living together, working together, speaking the ethnic language together" to listen to the thoughts, aspirations and difficulties of the people.
Proactively coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to combine resources, prioritize investment in infrastructure construction to serve economic development and create favorable conditions for planning and resettlement of residents associated with national defense and security tasks.
Specifically, in the period of 2021-2025, Economic-Defense Group 337 will implement 19 civil works in the management area, hand over 10 traffic, domestic water, irrigation works... with a total cost of more than 42 billion VND, with more than 1,500 households benefiting. Organize dozens of field trips to do mass mobilization work with more than 900 cadres, soldiers, and young intellectuals volunteering to participate, contributing more than 13,800 working days to repair 13 community works, 69 km of inter-village roads, and 99 km of intra-field canals in difficult areas.
Responding to the emulation movements of "Skilled mass mobilization" and building "Good mass mobilization units", over the years, cadres, soldiers and young intellectual volunteers of Economic-Defense Group 337 have effectively deployed and maintained meaningful activities, such as: "Spring on the border - Tet full of military-civilian affection", supporting the "Heart of the homeland - Supporting the school" study encouragement fund; the model of "Production team cadres and young intellectual volunteers of Group 337 accompanying children to school"; "Green-shirted volunteer teachers of Group 337 come to villages and hamlets"; mass organizations have built "Tet on the border full of military-civilian affection", "Volunteer Saturday", "Green Sunday", "Saturday, Sunday for the people", "Haircut for children", "Bowl of love porridge"...
Thereby, thousands of gifts were given to policy families, poor households, and students overcoming difficulties with the amount of hundreds of millions of VND; 55 orphaned students and students in difficult circumstances were adopted and supported to excel in their studies were supported.
Head of Economic-Defense Group 337, Colonel Uong Dinh Tan said that with the motto of "taking people as the root", the Party Committee and unit commanders regularly lead, direct and organize the implementation of mass mobilization work, especially paying attention to the material and spiritual life of the people in disadvantaged communes. In particular, focusing on effectively implementing movements and models suitable for each locality to well perform the dual task of both economic development and national defense-security stability.
Through the coordination regulations, the unit periodically organizes meetings, mid-term and final reviews of projects and models to grasp the situation and remove difficulties and obstacles in implementation. Thanks to that, most of the programs, projects and models deployed by the delegation have brought about positive results and received high response and consensus from local Party committees, authorities and people. Thanks to that, it has made an important contribution to the process of hunger eradication and poverty reduction, building an increasingly strong national defense posture at the border.
