Highlights attracting tourists to Cat Ba

Mr. Vu Huu Vung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cat Hai special economic zone, said that in the coming time, the special economic zone will continue to mobilize maximum resources for green transformation, digital transformation, application of artificial intelligence in economic and social development and build Cat Ba into a national tourist area, an international marine eco-tourism center.

Regarding green transformation, Viet Hai community tourism site will be a pilot model for replication throughout the special zone. Specifically, on August 12, the People's Committee of Cat Hai special zone issued plan No. 26/KH-UBND on "Green transformation of Viet Hai community tourism site, Cat Hai special zone, period 2025-2030". Accordingly, the special zone will focus on green transformation in 5 areas, of which tourism is the leading area. Viet Hai community tourism site develops in the direction of balancing economic growth, environmental protection and improving the quality of community life. The locality continues to develop experiential tourism, exploring trekking tours through the primeval forest located in the core zone of Cat Ba National Park as well as other environmentally friendly services such as cycling to experience the countryside scenery in the middle of the ocean, foot massage with stream fish...

Viet Hai will apply technologies and technical solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, use renewable energy such as solar and wind power, and use 100% environmentally friendly means of transport such as electric cars, bicycles, and solar boats. Accommodation establishments, restaurants, and tourism service businesses must comply with regulations on wastewater and waste treatment, limit the use of disposable plastics, and contribute to maintaining the marine ecological environment and Cat Ba National Forest. Most importantly, green tourism must be associated with the conservation of forest, marine ecosystems, and rare flora and fauna.

Regarding green conversion at other tourist destinations on Cat Ba archipelago, a representative of the People's Committee of Cat Hai special zone said that, in parallel with the implementation of the "Green Sunday" program held monthly, hotels, restaurants as well as tourists all minimize the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic items.

It is known that the special zone has 316 tourist accommodation establishments with a total of 6,606 rooms; there are 149 sightseeing and overnight passenger ships operating in the bays of Cat Ba archipelago; there are 77 food and beverage service establishments serving tourists. Along with sightseeing and resort activities at locations around Cat Ba area, tourists can also explore and experience other unique tourism services such as countryside tourism, exploring Cat Ba National Park, staying overnight on Lan Ha Bay...

In the past seven months, Cat Ba tourism has welcomed over 3 million visitors, of which nearly 1 million were international visitors. In 2025, Cat Ba strives to welcome over 4 million visitors, including over 1.2 million international visitors.

Along with tourists from traditional markets in Northeast Asia, more and more tourists from countries and territories around the world come to Cat Ba, especially after Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage.

According to Ms. Karen, a tourist from Australia, she learned about Cat Ba through searching for information about tourism in Vietnam. When she arrived here, she was especially impressed with the peaceful beauty of Lan Ha Bay and Viet Hai village. In Viet Hai village, she experienced the style and living space of a rural family. "This is the most interesting point of the trip to Cat Ba," Ms. Keren shared.
