In recent weeks, a makeshift steamed crab stand on 9A Street, Trung Son Area (Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) has suddenly become a hit, attracting long lines of people waiting to buy every afternoon.
On the afternoon of June 20, even though it was only 2 p.m., we recorded a large number of people standing in front of the SaiGon Mia apartment building on 9A Street waiting to "compete" to buy steamed crabs from Mr. Lam Bao Dam (37 years old, living in District 7) who brought them here to sell.
Customers jostle to buy crabs every afternoon.
According to Mr. Bao Dam, he used to sell live crabs, but seeing that many customers were still hesitant to prepare crabs at home, he also started selling steamed crabs, making it more convenient for customers to enjoy.
Although it has been open for less than a month, his crab stall has not only received enthusiastic support from the locals but has also become a phenomenon, with long lines of people waiting to buy every day, and a series of review videos appearing on social networks.
"I didn't expect the crab stall to be so popular. There were days when customers waited from 1pm, even though the stall didn't open until 3pm," Dam shared.
When asked what makes his crab stall so popular, Mr. Dam said he doesn't have any special recipe, he just makes it like everyone else does at home. "However, my crabs are genuine Ca Mau crabs, carefully selected, guaranteed to be fresh, firm, and full of roe. Before selling, we clean them thoroughly, steam them until just cooked, and check each crab to ensure quality," Mr. Dam honestly shared.
In addition, the price of 45,000 VND/quality steamed crab is also an important factor, suitable for the budget of many customers, from students, office workers to families.

According to the records, customers who buy crabs often choose fatty, firm crabs. In case the crab is too soft, he is willing to exchange it on the spot or pay for it on the next purchase. Each portion of crab is sold with salt, pepper, lemon and fresh chili to eat immediately.
Currently, Mr. Dam's steamed crab stall starts selling from 3pm to 3:30pm every day. On average, he sells a few dozen kilos of crabs a day and sells for only 1 hour, sometimes only 40 minutes.
In addition, he also accepts online pre-orders for customers who want to buy quickly.
