At the end of May, the Provincial Women's Union coordinated with the Department of Education and Training of Tien Yen district to organize the "Knowledge of mothers and children's health" contest. The contest was attended by 18 members from 6 families from communes and towns in the district. Through contest forms such as handling situations, answering multiple choice questions, dramatization, performing videos/clips..., the contest conveyed a lot of scientific knowledge about caring for and raising children from 0-5 years old, health care, nutrition for pregnant and lactating mothers...
Not only in Tien Yen, this contest has also been implemented in many highland localities such as Ba Che, Binh Lieu, Hai Ha... contributing to raising awareness about the importance of child care in the period from 0 to 5 years old, especially for pregnant women and women with young children - the key target group of Project 7.
Training activities on knowledge on preventing and combating malnutrition for children under 5 years old under the Project "Propaganda and advocacy to improve nutrition and physical strength for children in mountainous areas, ethnic minority areas, and mountainous areas of Quang Ninh province, period 2022-2025" have also been implemented. In the mountainous district of Ba Che, participating in this training program, young women, women of childbearing age, women raising young children, and caregivers were informed of many important knowledge such as: balanced and reasonable nutrition for pregnant and lactating women; skills in nutritional care for children according to each stage of development; nutrition from the daily menu to ensure energy and nutrients for children.
Ms. Ly Thi Trang, Nam Son commune, Ba Che district said: In addition to knowledge about nutrition and health care for children, we also exchanged and practiced designing daily menus to ensure energy and nutrition for children from 0-5 years old, thereby helping to improve nutrition and stature for children.
Along with organizing communication activities to raise awareness and knowledge, 21 models of "Children's careand education " have been established by the Women's Union at all levels in ethnic minority communes in the province. Each model will have about 30 members participating, including grassroots Union officials, parents, and those who directly care for and raise children, to exchange, share, update, and improve knowledge and skills on scientific child care and education, ensuring children develop the best intelligence and physical strength; raise awareness, change the behavior of mothers, families, people and communities about health care, improve nutrition and physical strength for children.
Ms. Phun Thi Na, Head of the Child Care and Education Club organized by the Women's Union of Quang Duc Commune (Hai Ha District), said: The activities are selected and organized in the most familiar way, we are advised on nutritious dishes for children, or time management so that we can play and study with our children; solve some common behavioral situations between parents and children, help children develop social skills...
In addition to the Women's Union, the provincial health sector has closely coordinated with localities, especially remote areas such as Ba Che, Binh Lieu, Tien Yen... to synchronously implement maternal and child health care programs with a focus on nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life - the golden period that determines the stature, physical strength and intelligence of children.
Commune health stations also organize screening and periodic nutritional assessments for pregnant mothers and children under 2 years old; provide advice on breastfeeding and appropriate weaning diets; and supplement essential micronutrients such as iron, zinc, and vitamin A. Malnourished children receive timely treatment and monthly growth monitoring. In addition, home health care for mothers and newborns in the first 42 days after birth is maintained regularly.
During the campaign to supplement Vitamin A for children under 5 years old on June 1-2 every year, localities have simultaneously organized weighing and comprehensive health assessment for children... This activity contributes to reducing the rate of micronutrient deficiency, increasing resistance and limiting respiratory and digestive infections in ethnic minority children.
Identifying nutrition as a fundamental factor for children's development, especially in the golden period from 0 to 5 years old, preschools also focus on improving the quality of meals and coordinating physical education activities for children at school through centralized kitchens, clean vegetable gardens, safe food stalls, etc.
Quang Ninh aims to reduce the rate of underweight children under 5 years old to below 11% and stunted children to below 17% by 2025; improve the quality of health care and nutrition for children in highland, ethnic minority and mountainous areas. To realize this goal, it is necessary to continue promoting the role of mass organizations, the drastic participation of authorities at all levels and especially the active support of parents, caregivers and caregivers.
