Commenting on the Math exam for the 2025 high school graduation exam , sharing with VietNamNet , teacher Nguyen Thi Hong (Head of the Math - IT group, Lomonosov Secondary and High School, Hanoi ) highly appreciated this year's Math exam, because it has a reasonable structure and level and is not too different from the sample exam that the Ministry of Education and Training announced.

“The exam ensures the requirements for graduation and university admission, but the most outstanding point is the clear presence of practical questions. The problems not only test theoretical knowledge and pure math solving skills, but also put students in situations close to life such as: Apps for managing advertising messages on phones; the amount of residual drugs in water in the aquaculture industry; mathematical modeling in observing the movement of an object in space; optimization problems in economics or problems calculating the volume of a decorative object, ...”, Ms. Hong said.

According to Ms. Hong, the exam closely followed the orientation of the new generaleducation program, focusing on developing the ability to apply knowledge and problem-solving thinking - something that modern society really needs.

According to Ms. Hong, in general, the exam has good differentiation, creating conditions for assessing capacity in a real way. “I think this is a positive signal, showing that the innovation of exam questions is going in the right direction. This year's exam is a strong change, not only in form but also in assessment philosophy. To achieve high scores, students cannot memorize or practice mechanically but must truly understand and apply mathematics flexibly and thoughtfully. I consider this a good, scientific exam, with high differentiation and suitable for the goal of comprehensive capacity development according to the new general education program,” Ms. Hong said.

The head of the Math - IT group, MVLomonosov Secondary and High School, said that with many questions related to reality, students who are trained in logical thinking, understand the nature of knowledge and have the ability to apply it flexibly will have the advantage of scoring 9 - 10 points. "With this test, the score distribution will shift slightly to the left compared to previous years. Due to the smaller number of questions but the higher level of thinking and the scoring method for true and false questions, students who do not do the test carefully can easily lose a lot of points, and the short answer part, if done correctly but wrongly, will also not get any points", Ms. Hong analyzed and predicted that the score distribution for Math this year will fall to around 6.6 - 7 points.

The SSStudy Education System's expert team determined that the Math exam has a similar structure to the illustration exam. Part I includes 12 multiple-choice questions with 4 options at the Recognition - Understanding level, Part II includes 4 True or False multiple-choice questions at the Understanding - Application level, and Part III includes 6 Short-answer multiple-choice questions at the Application - High Application level.

This year's exam has a high level of differentiation. Average students can get 7 points, good students can get 8-9 points, and 10 points is only for those who can handle discrete math and probability well.

“The exam questions are highly novel, requiring the ability to solve practical problems through the application of mathematical knowledge. In particular, the arithmetic progression problem is considered interesting and novel, requiring the ability to skillfully combine arithmetic progression and probability knowledge,” the SSStudy expert team commented and predicted that the common score range would be 7 points, lower than the Math score range in 2024.

Dr. Pham Hong Danh, Head of the Department of Basic Mathematics at the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, commented that the Math exam had a different content and format. "The exam was different from the exam 49 years ago, but all students and teachers were not surprised because the structure and problems in the exam were completely similar to the reference exam announced by the Ministry of Education and Training. The difficulty level of the exam was somewhat lower than last year's exam. However, the number of 10 points will be less than last year because the structure and format of this year's exam has minimized the possibility of luck when taking the exam. The content of the exam covers grades 10 to 12 and focuses on grade 12. There are no tricky and tricky questions like in previous years," said Mr. Danh, adding that the exam has made significant progress in both form and content.

Dr. Pham Anh Tuan (teacher of Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School, Hanoi) assessed that the structure of the test closely follows the knowledge matrix of the Ministry of Education and Training. In addition, the test also includes many practical problems related to life. The test has 12 multiple-choice questions with many answer options covering knowledge of grades 11 and 12 and is mostly in form 1. Therefore, most students will complete the test completely. The 4 True-False multiple-choice questions are also from the 12th program, in form 1 and 2. The 6 short-answer multiple-choice questions cover knowledge of grades 10, 11 and 12.

However, the short answers are relatively difficult for students, focusing on mathematical thinking and mathematical modeling. According to Mr. Tuan, the exam has 3 difficult questions of a classification nature, including 2 questions on Combination - Probability and 1 question on integration application. "Compared to last year's high school graduation exam, this is a new exam structure, the content of the questions is also completely different. Students no longer encounter questions that are heavily computational. Instead, they have to develop their thinking ability and modeling of problems, especially interdisciplinary integrated questions," said Mr. Tuan.
