Apple's WWDC 2025 developer conference took place early on June 10 (Vietnam time). Here, the bitten Apple brought many important improvements to the interface and features of iPhone and iPad.
Despite the lack of new hardware, WWDC 2025 still attracted attention. Here are the highlights introduced by Apple at last night's event.
Liquid Glass design language
Opening the event, Apple introduced a new design for the entire operating system called Liquid Glass. The main style of Liquid Glass focuses on transparency, shadow effects and glass simulation.
“This is our biggest design change ever. For the first time, we’re bringing a common look and feel across all platforms,” said Alan Dye, Apple’s senior vice president of human interface design.
According to The Verge , Liquid Glass is inspired by visionOS, and can change effects in real time. For example, when swiping to unlock, the lock screen will sparkle like swiping a glass panel. The borders around the application and buttons also have a transparent effect.

Liquid Glass's interface elements move in real time, applying to all buttons, sliders, text... In addition to the default application, Apple also released an API for developers to update their apps for the new interface.
On macOS 26, Liquid Glass applies to the dock, menu bar, and toolbars, creating a larger, more seamless feel.
The last time Apple changed the look of iOS was in 2013. Twelve years later, the style of iOS 7 still influences new versions. Liquid Glass, on the other hand, is a complete change, requiring developers to update their apps to match the new design.
iOS 26
As rumored, Apple has decided to number its operating systems by year instead of release order. No more iOS 19, the next software version for iPhone is called iOS 26.
With the Liquid Glass design language, familiar interface elements from iOS 26 are renewed. On the lock screen, the clock can change size according to the subject. The Camera app has a more logical and simpler layout, while the address bar and navigation buttons in Safari have an effect of floating off the screen.
The Phone app on iOS 26 has a number of improvements, including a mode to combine favorite contacts, call history and voicemail on the same screen, a feature to answer or listen to calls on the user's behalf when busy, called Hold Assist and Call Screening.
The messaging app adds a background-editing feature. Users can choose from stock photos, take selfies, or create images using AI. Group chats get a polling tool and notifications when members are typing messages.

To create new emojis, Apple allows users to combine two different emojis, instead of just entering a text description like before. Image Playground now also supports creating images using ChatGPT.
Apple also added a Live Translation tool. Using an AI model that operates on the device, the feature supports the translation of messages, voice calls, and FaceTime, allowing content to be translated in voice or text. Developers can integrate Live Translation through an API provided by Apple.
Lyrics translation and transcription are also coming to Apple Music, along with AutoMix, which automatically mixes tracks and transitions seamlessly like a DJ playing music. Users can also pin their favorite artists and playlists to the top of the app.
Apple Maps can now learn your favorite routes and destinations to optimize your itinerary, warn you of delays or traffic jams, and add Visited Places to save and share with friends.

Since iOS 26, Apple has added a Games app, focusing on playing games and interacting with friends. According to The Verge , users can access a library of games downloaded from the App Store, games in the Apple Arcade package, see the games friends are playing, and create challenges to compete.
Visual Intelligence on iOS 26 supports screenshots in addition to analyzing photos from the camera. For example, if you're browsing social media and see a nice jacket, just trigger Visual Intelligence by taking a screenshot, then search for product information on Google. The feature also allows you to take a screenshot of an appointment and add it to your calendar, or ask ChatGPT about any information on the screen.
iOS 26 is the second major update after Apple Intelligence launched in iOS 18 last year. Some basic features like Genmoji, Writing Tools, and ChatGPT integration are already widely available, but some important tools like the new Siri won't arrive until next year.
iPadOS 26
Not only the Liquid Glass interface, iPadOS 26 has many upgrades such as the window multitasking system, the completely new Files and Preview application for editing PDF files.
According to Apple, the window system on iPadOS 26 allows for “dynamic window resizing” and placement anywhere on the screen. Users can add windows to Stage Manager mode, drag and drop if using multiple screens.
The iPad has always been positioned between the iPhone and the Mac. Until recently, many people thought that the power of the iPad was enough to function as a real computer. With iPadOS 26, Apple chose to lean towards macOS by adding a menu bar that can be swiped down to reveal different options for the open app.

The Preview app is also brought over from macOS to iPadOS 26, allowing you to view and mark up PDF files. Meanwhile, the Files app supports a detailed list view similar to the Mac. Live Activities are integrated into iPadOS to update information about apps running in the background.
After iPhone, the Journal app is also brought to iPadOS 26, alongside the Games app and Game Overlay mode, allowing access to Game Center features such as chatting and game settings without having to exit.
macOS 26 Tahoe
The biggest change of macOS 26 comes from the Liquid Glass interface, applied to the dock, toolbar, menu bar, application icons... Similar to iPhone, users can change the icon background according to the light, dark theme or favorite color.
If synced with an iPhone, macOS 26 will have a standalone Phone app, supporting voicemail, favorite contacts, and call answering features similar to the iPhone version. In addition, Live Activities from the iPhone will also be displayed on the Mac, allowing for quick updates without using the phone.
Another major upgrade on macOS 26 comes from the Spotlight tool. Users can directly perform some actions such as writing notes, sending emails, running shortcuts... The tool also displays a list of applications to activate, supporting finding specific operations in the application.

Apple Intelligence features like Live Translation, Genmoji, and Image Playground also appear on macOS 26. With Live Translation, messages in the Messages app are continuously translated on both sides, and FaceTime calls are also translated into text.
Apple also brought the Games app and Game Overlay mode to macOS 26. For game developers, Apple announced the latest Metal 4 graphics API, integrating MetalFX Frame Interpolation and Denoising tools to improve frame rates.
macOS 26 is expected to be released to the public this fall. According to Apple, this version is compatible with all Macs with M chips, and Macs with Intel + T2 chips.
visionOS 26 and watchOS 26
The next update to Vision Pro smart glasses adds a widget system, which can be “hung” in the surrounding space like a picture frame. Users can customize the width, color, and depth of the widget. Some default widgets include clock, weather forecast, music, and images.
Next, visionOS 26 supports the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller. Compared to conventional game controllers, PSVR2 Sense supports better VR or AR gaming, safe and stable control compared to Apple's eye/gesture tracking system.
Another major improvement is hands-free scrolling. Previously, Vision Pro users had to pinch their thumb and index finger to select content and then scroll by dragging and dropping. In visionOS 26, the Look to Scroll feature allows users to scroll content faster and easier with their eyes.

For iPhone users, visionOS 26.3 will support unlocking the phone right in the virtual environment, as well as receiving calls from the iPhone. The Personas feature has also been improved, providing a “more realistic and familiar feeling” by increasing the detail of the virtual avatar’s hair, eyelashes, and skin tone.
The new update allows multiple Vision Pro users to experience 360-degree content in the same room, expanding languages such as French, German, Japanese, etc.
Apple also introduced watchOS 26 with the Liquid Glass interface. On Apple Watch Series 9 and later, users can turn their wrist to dismiss notifications or alarms. The operating system can monitor ambient noise, automatically adjusting the volume of notifications and incoming calls.

watchOS 26 also adds a fitness feature called Workout Buddy. Using Apple Intelligence and workout data, the tool can analyze information and make tailored workout recommendations. The Workout app has been redesigned with shortcuts in the four corners, while Apple Music uses an algorithm to recommend music based on workouts.
Other new features on watchOS 26 include the Notes app for pinning and creating notes, call support tools similar to iPhone such as Hold Assist, Call Screening...
