At around 4 p.m. on December 28 (local time), a fire and explosion occurred at the Maruyama Painting Industry factory in Tonoshima, Kadoma City, Osaka Prefecture. According to the fire department and police, the fire almost completely burned down a two-story steel-frame building measuring about 300 square meters. The factory was undergoing a thorough cleaning at the time and the cause of the fire and explosion has not yet been determined.

The fire and explosion left three workers with severe burns, including two Vietnamese. According to authorities, the two injured were Vietnamese workers, NCA (born in 2001) and D.VV (born in 2004), who went to Japan to work under the trainee program. Currently, both Vietnamese workers are in a coma, unconscious, one of whom suffered third-degree burns, the most severe level.

As soon as the news was announced, the Labor Management Board of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan contacted the workers' relatives as well as the management union in Japan and the dispatching company in Vietnam to learn about the situation and support related issues.

Mr. Phan Tien Hoang, First Secretary, Head of the Labor Management Board of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, said that he quickly issued a document directing the company to send Vietnamese workers to coordinate with the union, work with the hospital treating the workers, and request active treatment to ensure the lives and health of the two workers.

Doctors said that because the patient suffered burns all over his body, he would have to undergo partial surgery. The hospital is doing its best to treat and recover the two Vietnamese workers.

The Labor Management Board contacted representatives of the families of the two injured workers to visit, encourage and answer some questions related to treatment and insurance policies.

In addition, the management union in Japan has sent an interpreter to assist the family of the Vietnamese worker in communicating with the hospital and the company about the victim's situation. The union said it will work with the family representative of the worker to work on insurance for the injured worker.

The explosion occurred about 1 km south of Keihan Kadoma-shi Station, near the large shopping center "LaLaport Kadoma" and the Kadoma interchange on the Kinki Expressway. According to the company's website, Maruyama Paint Industry has four factories at the site and handles exterior paint processing for electrical equipment and scientific machinery.
