The Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil held a press conference to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

Ambassador Bui Van Nghi shared about Vietnam's achievements after 80 years of building and developing the country, and looked back at the relationship between Vietnam and Brazil over the past time.

On August 20, in the capital city of Brasília, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), which is also the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnamese Diplomatic Service (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025), the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil held a press conference to provide the press and Brazilian friends with updated information on Vietnam's achievements after 80 years of defending, building and developing the country, especially after nearly 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi and international integration policy initiated and led by the Communist Party of Vietnam , and at the same time, looking back at the relationship between Vietnam and Brazil in the past time.

The press conference was attended by journalists and reporters from local newspapers, radio and television stations such as the National Assembly Television Station, the Radio Station of the Special Region of Brasília, the Media Agency of the Diplomatic Corps in the capital Brasília, newspapers such as Diplomacia Business, Correio Braziliense, O Globo, Capital Brasilia...

In addition, there was also the participation of Ms. Ana Prestes, Head of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCdoB) and Mr. Pedro de Oliveira, Secretary General of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association (ABRAVIET), representing Brazilian friends to attend the press conference.

Speaking at the press conference, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi shared information about the situation in all aspects of Vietnam under the leadership of the Party following Ho Chi Minh's ideology. With a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace , friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of international relations, proactive and active international integration.

Since President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Vietnam has overcome many historical hardships and challenges, from fighting and resisting colonialism and imperialism to regain the entire country, liberating the South, unifying the country to building and defending the Fatherland, as well as the current process of Renovation and international integration.

Regarding foreign relations and international cooperation, Vietnam promotes bilateral diplomacy and multilateral cooperation. Up to now, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with nearly 200 countries, comprehensive partnerships, strategic partnerships or comprehensive strategic partnerships with 38 countries and is an active member of more than 70 international and regional organizations, and signed 17 free trade agreements (FTAs), including many new-generation FTAs ​​with more than 60 countries and territories. The visa exemption policy extended to 24 countries from August 15 also aims to promote international cooperation and integration, develop tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

Regarding national defense, Vietnam has built a regular, elite, and gradually modernized people's armed forces, maintained the "four no's" policy (no military alliances, no foreign bases, no collusion with one country against another, no use or threat of use of force) and cooperated in defense with 60 countries, including many major powers. Vietnam has also established defense attaché offices in 35 countries, modernized its armed forces, and promoted cooperation in training and technology transfer.

Vietnam's economy has made strong progress, from a poor, backward country heavily devastated by 30 years of war against foreign invaders, it has now become the 32nd largest economy in the world and the 25th largest in the world in terms of purchasing power parity, with GDP forecast to reach 490 billion USD in 2025, with an average growth of 6-7%/year.

Import-export turnover in the first 7 months of 2025 reached 514.7 billion USD, trade surplus 10.18 billion USD, attracting 24.09 billion USD, FDI focused on high technology and renewable energy. Multidimensional poverty rate decreased to 4.06%. In the social field, Vietnam achieved primary school enrollment rate of 99%, secondary school enrollment rate of 95%, average life expectancy increased to 75 years, tourism welcomed 17.5 million international visitors in 2024, a remarkable increase compared to the previous year.

The largest administrative reform in Vietnam's modern history from July 1st will streamline the state apparatus, reduce the number of provincial and municipal administrative units from 63 to 34, and shift to a two-level local government model (province - commune), improve the effectiveness of state management, be closer to the people, serve the people and businesses, and create a favorable environment for sustainable economic growth. The GDP growth target for 2025 is 8% or higher, aiming to reach double digits in the 2026-2030 period.

The Ambassador shared that 80 years of Vietnamese diplomacy have accompanied the countries of the Americas in the development of the Vietnamese people, in which the Vietnam-Brazil relationship has developed strongly in the past three years, with the upgrading of the relationship to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024 and Vietnam becoming a BRICS partner in June 2025.

Bilateral trade turnover will reach 7.98 billion USD in 2024, with Vietnam exporting footwear, textiles, electronics, and coffee; importing agricultural materials, beef, cotton, and cereals from Brazil. Official and state visits between the two sides have strengthened relations and implemented many cooperation projects, including the announcement ceremony of the first shipment of tra fish, tilapia, and beef between the two countries.

In addition to economics and diplomacy, cultural and sports cooperation has also been strongly promoted. The Vietnamese Embassy has organized many events to promote culture, arts and cuisine, and celebrated important milestones such as the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 17th anniversary of the Comprehensive Partnership; the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification; the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam Day in Brazil (November 2024), and the inauguration ceremony of the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Monument in Rio de Janeiro on the occasion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at the G20 Summit (November 2024).

Sports cooperation, especially in football, also marked important progress, with the signings between the Vietnam Football Federation and the Brazilian Football Confederation, and Ho Chi Minh City Football Club and Grêmio Club, Rio Grande do Sul state.

The Ambassador emphasized that Vietnam's achievements in 80 years of independence are the result of internal efforts and international cooperation, including with Brazil. The Vietnam-Brazil strategic partnership opens up opportunities for sustainable development in economics, trade, services, culture, sports, tourism, diplomacy, science and technology and innovation, and agriculture, while contributing to building a peaceful and prosperous world.

After the presentation, the press conference took place enthusiastically with questions from reporters and journalists chaired by Ambassador Bui Van Nghi on the progress and next steps to promote trade, investment, culture and tourism relations between Vietnam and Brazil, measures to expand economic and trade cooperation between the two countries in the coming time and the Embassy's contributions to promoting Vietnam-Brazil relations.
