Da Nang: There is still a shortage of medicine for medical examination and treatment at public health facilities.

DNVN - The Da Nang Department of Health said that the shortage of medicine for medical examination and treatment from the second quarter of 2024 until now is still happening locally and temporarily at some public medical facilities; the supply of medical equipment, consumables, testing chemicals, etc. is still interrupted.

According to the Da Nang Department of Health, up to now, most public health facilities in the city have basically ensured the need for medicine for medical examination and treatment, including emergency medicines; necessary medicines for inpatient treatment and some outpatient medicines for the treatment of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, blood pressure, diabetes, respiratory disease, etc.

However, the shortage of medical examination and treatment drugs from the second quarter of 2024 to present is still localized and temporary at some public health facilities due to interruptions while waiting for bidding results; mainly focusing on addictive and psychotropic drugs (Fentanyl, Morphine, Diazepam, Pethidine), anesthetics (Lidocaine + Adrenaline), broad-spectrum antibiotics (Meropenem, Imipenem); cancer drugs (Gemcitabine, Vincristine); drugs to treat eye diseases such as glaucoma, vitreoretinal diseases...

In particular, drugs at retail establishments such as pharmacies and drug counters in some hospitals, especially end-line hospitals and specialized hospitals such as Da Nang Hospital, Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, Da Nang Eye Hospital, and Da Nang Mental Hospital, are in serious shortage because units prioritize bidding for emergency drugs, inpatient treatment, and outpatient dispensing.

Regarding the supply of medical equipment, consumables, and testing chemicals, the Da Nang Department of Health said that from the end of 2022, the procurement at units under the Department of Health will be proactively implemented by these units according to the decentralization prescribed in Resolution 60/2022/NQ-HDND of the Da Nang City People's Council on the authority to decide on the procurement of public assets. Thereby, the procurement is aimed at being proactive and timely, meeting the medical examination and treatment work according to the characteristics of the unit.

As of September 30, 2024, medical units have implemented 152 bidding packages with a total package value of nearly 424 billion VND corresponding to more than 4,900 items. Of which, the total value of implemented bidding packages is more than 350 billion VND; the total value of ongoing bidding packages is more than 74 billion VND.

However, according to the Da Nang Department of Health, disruptions in the supply of medical supplies and chemicals still occur in some units, at certain times while waiting for bidding results. For example, Da Nang Hospital lacks infusion lines, nylon needles, etc.; the Eye Hospital lacks artificial lenses, silicone wires, vitreous cutters, etc.
