Diversifying lychee consumption channels to reduce crop pressure

With an area of lychee produced according to VietGAP standards of about 16 thousand hectares, Global GAP of 204 hectares and organic of 10 hectares, Bac Giang lychee is protected by trademark and geographical indication in 8 countries and exported to more than 30 countries and territories. Currently, there are many businesses purchasing Bac Giang lychee for export as well as domestic consumption.

Enterprises, cooperatives and households in Luc Ngan signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in lychee production and consumption.

With the motto of valuing all markets, the authorities of Luc Ngan district and Chu town have actively coordinated with the Department of Industry and Trade to organize many activities to connect and promote trade with distribution corporations, wholesale markets, businesses, traders, e-commerce platforms and localities with border gates to support product consumption. In addition to traditional markets, the authorities also promote connections with capable and experienced businesses to bring lychee to potential markets. The current form of lychee consumption is mainly selling fresh fruit (accounting for 80%). Lychee is consumed in the Northern market mainly in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa...; Southern provinces and cities such as: Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong ... and exported to markets in China, Cambodia, Korea, Japan, the United States...

Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, Vice Chairman of Luc Ngan District People's Committee informed that through the lychee consumption promotion sessions, representatives of trade centers, supermarkets, wholesale markets, and authorities at border gates all committed to providing maximum support in procedures, expanding the purchasing network, prioritizing distribution, and ensuring the freshest lychee products reach consumers. Currently, leading domestic distributors and retail groups such as Saigon Co.op , Go!, Tops Market, Winmart, etc. are actively participating in lychee consumption.

This crop, Tan Yen district has more than 1,200 hectares of early ripening lychee with an estimated output of 15,000 tons. At this time, many businesses have signed contracts to consume early lychee in domestic and foreign markets such as: Dragonberry Produce Company, Central Retail Group, Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company, Global Food Joint Stock Company, Vifoco Import-Export Joint Stock Company and e-commerce platforms such as: Alibaba, Viettel Post...

Not only stopping at consuming fresh lychees, localities are also aiming at deep processing to increase value. Products processed from lychees such as dried lychees, juices, tea, drinks, cakes, etc. are being encouraged to develop. Accordingly, in Luc Ngan district, it is expected that 6.1 thousand tons of lychees will be cold-stored and industrially processed through enterprises.

The sale of lychees through e-commerce channels, social networks and to tourists continues to receive attention. Some e-commerce platforms actively participating in lychee consumption are: Voso.vn, Viettel post, Alibaba, San24h.vn, nongsan.buudien.vn... Many cooperatives have participated in selling large quantities of lychees through social networks and e-commerce platforms such as: Luc Ngan Xanh, Binh Nguyen Clean Agricultural Products, Hong Xuan General Agricultural Production and Service Trading... In addition, Luc Ngan district and Chu town currently have nearly 3,000 lychee drying kilns of all kinds, meeting the demand for processing more than 12,000 tons of fresh lychees in the area.
