Davide Ancelotti, a name that certainly makes many football fans pause. Indeed, he is the son of veteran coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Important turning point
Immediately after the end of the FIFA Club World Cup, Botafogo officially appointed Davide Ancelotti as head coach to replace Paiva - who was supposed to stay until the end of the tournament in the US. This was an important turning point in the career of the son of famous coach Carlo Ancelotti.
At the age of 36, Davide officially holds the position of head coach for the first time, after many years working as an assistant alongside his father at a series of big teams such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Napoli and Everton.
Davide Ancelotti was born in 1989 in Parma, Italy. He was a youth player for AC Milan, then played for the semi-professional team Borgomanero. But Davide's football career ended early in 2009, when he was only 20 years old.
In a later sharing, Davide said he quickly realized that he was not talented enough to become a real professional player. Therefore, he chose to give up his dream of being a player to pursue the path of coaching.
So Davide studied sports science at the University of Parma, graduating with honors.
The turning point came in 2012, when Davide was brought by his father to Paris Saint-Germain as a fitness coach. Since then, he has become Carlo Ancelotti's trusted "right-hand man" in his journey to Europe's top clubs.

Not a shadow
From PSG, Davide followed his father to Real Madrid, then to Bayern Munich. In 2016, at the age of 27, he obtained his UEFA A professional coaching license and officially became an assistant coach. He continued to accompany his father at Napoli, Everton and then returned to Real Madrid from 2021.
During that time, Davide gradually proved that he was not just a "family member" following his father, but a real factor in the coaching staff.
At Real Madrid, many players recounted that Davide was the one who directly transmitted tactics, adjusted the squad and continuously contributed to tactical meetings with his father.
Alex Iwobi, a former Everton player, once shared in a podcast: "Davide is the one who explains the tactics. He is always the first to communicate. Carlo Ancelotti only comes in at the end."
However, many people in the industry still look at Davide with suspicion. Some English football experts, when discussing his contact to lead Rangers FC, frankly stated that this was "a manifestation of cronyism", meaning that Davide was given the opportunity just because he was the son of a celebrity.
Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan once commented on talkSPORT: "A lot of work is being given to him just because of the name Ancelotti, not necessarily because of his ability."
Coach Carlo Ancelotti: that's the man I need
In the face of mixed reviews, Carlo Ancelotti has always defended his son. In a 2023 interview, the veteran Italian coach said: "Davide is the person I trust most in my team. Davide is not the type of assistant who always nods, but is willing to argue with me. That is the person I need."
As for Davide, when asked about the label "son of a boss", he calmly replied: "I understand that pressure. But my father doesn't need someone who always says yes. I have to prove my ability by daring to argue and doing things differently."
Perhaps because of his determination to escape the "son of a boss" label, Davide decided to separate from his father when Mr. Ancelotti took charge of the Brazilian national team. And indeed, it was not too difficult for him to find a decent team in the top football world.
Davide's advantage when he chose Botafogo was that he was still relatively... close to his father, as both father and son are now in Brazil.
Davide’s official takeover of Botafogo is a big step. No longer in his father’s shadow, he now has to take responsibility for the success or failure of the team. This challenge is also an opportunity for him to prove himself.
At the same time, separate from the huge shadow of Carlo Ancelotti and gradually escape from prejudice.
