Pig farming facility for CP: Maintain stable livestock herds, ensure good farming practices

Currently, in the province, there are nearly 10 pig farms processing for CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, with a scale of 500 - 3,500 pigs. Before the information about a CP store in Soc Trang mixing sick pigs and chickens into the store for consumption, CP's production and business activities in recent times have had a certain impact. In the difficult context, under much pressure from public opinion and without an official conclusion from the authorities, pig farms processing for CP in the province are still trying to maintain a stable herd of livestock, ensuring good livestock farming according to the company's orientation.

According to records, pig farms processing for CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company (abbreviated as CP) in the province are mainly concentrated in Yen Lac, Vinh Tuong, Song Lo districts... In addition to commercial pigs, some processing facilities also raise sows to provide breeding pigs for CP, not for sale on the market.

Sharing about production and business activities at this time, owners of pig farms processing for CP are quite hesitant because of the sensitive issue in the context of businesses being accused of consuming products that do not ensure quality.

However, there are also good-willed facility owners when asked on the condition that the reporter not specify the name of the facility. Accordingly, the owner of a pig breeding facility for CP in Dao Tu commune (Tam Duong) said: "Currently, the facility is raising 500 - 600 sows. On average, each week, the output of piglets for sale at the facility is 250 - 300 and production activities are still stable at this time, with no fluctuations or changes compared to before."

Recently, stable pig prices in localities have helped farmers increase their income and feel secure in production and business.

According to the owner of a commercial pig farm for CP in Dong Que commune (Song Lo), “Currently, we are raising 1,000 commercial pigs for CP, and so far there have been no unusual signs of a decrease in the scale or number of livestock. Compliance with regulations on disease prevention at the facility is being carried out well, in accordance with the company's instructions.”

According to the owner of this farm, the information related to the accusation that CP consumed pig products with signs of disease is still being investigated by the authorities, and there is no conclusion yet. However, at the pig farms that process for CP in the locality, there is absolutely no such situation. Sick and dead pigs are all handled and destroyed by the farm according to the correct procedures.

Hygiene and epidemic prevention work is ensured, animal feed is used according to plan, meeting quality standards. Accordingly, pig feed is applied according to each stage of raising, when pigs are close to being sold, feed will be used with a higher fiber ratio to increase excretion, ensuring safe pork quality.

Large-scale pig farming provides stable income and low risk.

Normally, each batch of pigs is raised for 5.5 - 6 months, equivalent to a weight of 1.2 - 1.3 quintals/pig. The CP company staff will notify the pigs 15-30 days in advance when they are ready to be sold.

During this time, technical staff will randomly take blood samples (at a rate of 30/500 pigs) for testing. The test samples must be free of harmful foreign bacteria and antibiotic residues before being released.

According to the assessment of the owners of the pig processing facilities, all stages from raising, disease prevention to selling have been done by CP methodically and professionally for many years. This is demonstrated through the schedule of selling pigs, entering breeding pigs as well as implementing the correct and sufficient vaccinations according to the plan, with the guidance and supervision of technicians.

In addition to CP, there are currently many large enterprises operating in the market in the field of production and trading of animal feed, pork, poultry, and seafood such as Japfa Comfeed, Dabaco...

For CP, after more than 30 years of investing in the Vietnamese market, the company's ecosystem is more prominent than many businesses in the livestock sector.

In the pig farming sector alone, CP has put into operation and started construction of a series of modern farms. In addition, the company also cooperates with farmers to implement a pig farming system. This enterprise has about 21 factories in Vietnam producing feed for livestock and poultry, and 4 factories producing feed for aquatic animals.

According to data updated in 2021, CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company accounts for about 17% of the animal feed market share in Vietnam. With these impressive figures, many owners of pig farms in the province have chosen and accompanied CP.

Processing livestock for businesses is a low-risk economic development direction with stable income because it is not subject to pressure from market prices. According to calculations by facility owners, after deducting costs for waste treatment, labor, barn renovation and repair, etc., the current price for raising each commercial pig for CP is from 200,000 to 300,000 VND. With a large scale of pig farming, the profits from these processing farms reach hundreds of millions of VND per year, even billions of VND, depending on the number of livestock.

In the current social situation, the psychology of the owners of the livestock processing facilities is also somewhat worried, afraid of a decrease in orders due to the difficulties of CP partners. At the same time, they hope that the incident will soon have an official conclusion from the authorities so that they can have plans and orientations for production and business in the coming time.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture , the current pig herd size in the province is estimated at nearly 500,000, up 1.9% over the same period. In the context of the Government's determination to fight against and handle smuggled goods, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, poor quality goods and ensure food safety, the Department of Agriculture has directed specialized units to strengthen information, propaganda, and guidance for people and businesses to properly implement biosafety farming processes, guide reasonable livestock herd restoration, ensure price stability as well as product quality, and meet consumers' demand for safe food...
