On December 30, news from the Ca Mau Provincial Forest Protection Department said that the province currently has about 40,214 hectares of peatland, most concentrated in U Minh Ha National Park with an area of nearly 9,000 hectares, with a depth of 0.1 - 1 m. Peatland areas were also recorded in 10 communes of U Minh and Tran Van Thoi districts.

U Minh Ha National Park has an area of nearly 9,000 hectares, with a depth of 0.1 - 1 m.

Previously, the Vietnam Forest Protection Department also implemented the Project "Sustainable management of peatland ecosystems in U Minh Ha National Park, Ca Mau province". After implementing the project, the group of experts calculated and determined that the peat reserves in the research area had a total peat reserve of over 19.7 million m3 . However, the peatland area is rapidly decreasing due to many reasons.

The research team also proposed to restore the swamp forest ecosystem with native tree species and Melaleuca trees, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity on peat soil in the ecological restoration subdivision of U Minh Ha National Park. Along with that, it is to maintain ecological balance and increase forest cover, contributing to responding to climate change and rising sea levels, preserving the peat swamp forest ecosystem; creating habitats for migratory animals and birds...
