Although the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is currently closed for periodic maintenance and repair, people are still flocking to Ba Dinh Square, which marks many important historical milestones of the country. They come not only to visit and take souvenir photos, but above all to express their respect and deep gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh. Many families have chosen to bring their children from far away provinces, especially from the South, to visit Hanoi , with the aim of helping the younger generation better understand the nation's roots and the great sacrifices of Uncle Ho.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thu, a parent from Bien Hoa city, shared: “Although I know that Uncle Ho’s Mausoleum is under maintenance and I cannot visit, right after hearing that my child passed the 10th grade entrance exam, I still decided to take him to Hanoi this summer. I want my child to see Uncle Ho’s resting place, a place that has been associated with many golden pages of the nation’s history. This is a way for my child to understand and appreciate more the values that the previous generations left behind.”
Not only is it a historical destination, the area around Uncle Ho's Mausoleum is also an open space that helps children get in touch with a solemn cultural and political environment. Witnessing the flag-raising ceremony and the changing of the guard at Ba Dinh Square, or visiting the Presidential Palace Relic Site, Uncle Ho's Stilt House... are vivid experiences that help children visualize more realistically the life and revolutionary career of the great leader.
These meaningful activities do not stop at “going to know”, but also create conditions for the young generation to feel with their hearts - feel the national pride, the strong will and sacrifice of the predecessors. In the context of modern society, when life is increasingly busy and technology takes up most of the time of young people, trips to the source like this become even more precious.
Taking children to visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in the summer may be a small act, but it carries with it a great passion of parents in nurturing patriotism, historical awareness and personality for their children. It is also the way many families are quietly contributing to preserving and spreading the good traditional values of the nation.
