President Luong Cuong receives Japanese Ambassador

On the afternoon of June 6, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam Ito Naoki.

At the reception, the President was pleased to note that, based on the long-standing historical ties and achievements of more than 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, especially since upgrading to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership at the end of 2023, the relationship between the two countries is developing substantially and effectively in all fields with increasingly solid political trust.

The President emphasized that Vietnam consistently considers Japan a leading important partner with a high priority position in its foreign policy; supports Japan in promoting its increasingly active role in contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world; and wishes to work with Japan to substantially and effectively implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, for the benefit of the people of the two countries and contribute to maintaining peace , stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The President highly appreciated the Ambassador's efforts and active contributions in promoting the Vietnam-Japan relationship as well as the successful implementation of the visit to Vietnam by Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and his wife last April, an important milestone in the bilateral relationship, opening up many new cooperation opportunities in the fields of defense, security, human resource training, green transformation, etc.

In order to continue promoting the results of the visits of the two countries' high-ranking leaders, the President asked the Ambassador to pay attention to promoting political trust through visits of high-ranking leaders and effectively implementing cooperation mechanisms between the two countries.

Along with that, the two sides need to promote intertwined economic interests, cooperation to ensure economic security, food security, investment and trade cooperation, thereby helping Vietnam carry out industrialization, modernization, build an independent, self-reliant economy, capable of responding to global economic fluctuations.

The President also hoped that the two sides would specifically implement the new pillars of cooperation in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation established during the recent visit of the Japanese Prime Minister; promote cooperation in training high-quality human resources, especially in the field of semiconductors, to benefit both countries; promote cooperation in the field of digital transformation, where Japan has strengths; promote the implementation of important pillars of cooperation in national security and defense, including continuing to effectively implement signed commitments and agreements.

Along with that, according to the President, the two sides need to continue to strengthen local cooperation, connect human resources, cooperate in labor, cultural exchange, and people-to-people exchange; strengthen cooperation and support each other in issues of mutual concern at regional and international mechanisms and forums such as the United Nations, APEC, and ASEAN.

Also at the reception, through the Ambassador, the President conveyed his regards and best wishes to the King and Queen, and looked forward to welcoming the King, Queen and members of the Royal Family to Vietnam soon.

Thanking the President for taking the time to meet him, Ambassador Ito Naoki expressed his impression of attending the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30) and wished to attend the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day.

The Ambassador also said that Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and his wife highly appreciated the results of their visit to Vietnam last April; affirming that Japan always supports the country's development policy in the context of Vietnam entering a new era.

The Ambassador suggested that the two sides further strengthen measures to promote bilateral relations, promote the results of Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru's visit, thereby further promoting cooperation in various fields, especially digital transformation, green transformation, and AI development.

In particular, promoting the good relationship as well as the results of the visit, Japan affirmed to accept 250 Vietnamese postgraduate students; the two sides also agreed to implement research projects in the semiconductor field; continue to promote the Vietnam-Japan University project. Along with that, the two sides promote defense-security cooperation; culture, sports; people-to-people exchange...

On this occasion, Ambassador Ito Naoki respectfully presented a letter from the King and Prime Minister of Japan to President Luong Cuong; promised to convey the President's regards and invitation to the King and Queen of Japan.
