Cuban President thanks Vietnamese people for their help

On August 16, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez posted a message on the X platform with the content: "We are extremely grateful for the generous help that the Vietnamese people have given to Cuba. Not only is it an act of love, this is also a gift that makes us honored because (it) comes from a hardworking and heroic nation, a nation that has risen after many struggles and now makes the world admire for its sustainable development."

The Cuban President also shared a post by Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, in which the ambassador said "we are deeply moved by the enthusiastic participation of the Vietnamese people in the campaign to support Cuba recently launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society ".

According to information from the Vietnam Red Cross, the campaign to support the Cuban people "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship" has reached more than 271.9 billion VND - more than 4 times the minimum target of 65 billion VND for the entire campaign.

Sharing about the results achieved, Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh - Vice President and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society - shared that he was truly moved and grateful for the enthusiastic participation of millions of Vietnamese people, showing a special love for the people and brotherly country of Cuba.

According to Mr. Anh, immediately after the launching ceremony on August 13, millions of people participated in supporting. Just 30 hours after the launching ceremony, the program made a miracle, reaching the program's minimum target of 65 billion VND. And even more touching, after 48 hours, the amount of support mobilized for the Cuban people exceeded the program's target by more than 200% with more than 130 billion VND.

"This shows the extremely warm affection, a special respect that every Vietnamese person wishes to have for the country and people of Cuba. It also affirms that Cuba has a very special place in the hearts of every Vietnamese person," Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh shared.

According to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the program will continue to be implemented for 65 days of mobilization (from August 13 to October 16, 2025).

On December 2, 1960, Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. Over the past 65 years, the two countries have always stood side by side in the struggle for national independence and freedom, and in the cause of building and defending the socialist homeland in each country.

The Vietnam-Cuba Joint Statement in September 2024 agreed to define 2025 as the "Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year", affirming the determination to bring the special relationship between the two countries to a new height, developing more comprehensively, substantially, effectively and sustainably.

At the same time, he reaffirmed Vietnam's solidarity and steadfast support for efforts to overcome the difficulties and challenges Cuba is experiencing.
