Ben Thanh Market is about to have a new square: Green space, monuments will take shape at the end of this year

According to the plan, from 2025-2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction will coordinate with the People's Committee of District 1 to implement the project "landscape renovation of the area in front of Ben Thanh Market".

The project was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in mid-February 2025, with the District 1 Construction Investment Project Management Board as the investor.

On the afternoon of June 24, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a representative of the District 1 Construction Investment Project Management Board said that currently, three main bidding packages are being urgently prepared, including: dismantling and renewing traffic routes; renovating squares and green spaces, installing equipment; casting a statue of Tran Nguyen Han and moving the statue of Quach Thi Trang to a new location.

According to the investor, the dismantling and renovation of the road was approved by the Department of Construction in mid-June.

It is expected that before June 30, 2025, the investor will approve the construction drawings and organize the selection of contractors, with the goal of starting construction in August and completing within 90 days (ie before the end of November 2025).

At the same time, the renovation of the landscape, square and equipment installation are also entering the design completion stage. The appraisal documents are expected to be completed by June 25. After that, the investor will organize a bidding for construction and supervision, with the deadline to start construction before September 30 and complete in 2025.

On June 19, the investor submitted a document to the Department of Construction and the Department of Culture and Sports requesting design appraisal for the recasting of the Tran Nguyen Han statue and the relocation of the Quach Thi Trang statue. The appraisal results are expected to be available in July.

The above packages all target to complete main construction before December 30, 2025.

According to the plan, the area in front of Ben Thanh Market will be renovated into an open public space with a square, trees, walking paths connecting the metro and major traffic routes.

This is also an area with high symbolic value, associated with the image of Ben Thanh Market - a long-standing commercial and tourist center of Ho Chi Minh City. The project is expected to create more attraction for the city center.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction plays the role of a specialized agency on construction.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said it is actively coordinating with relevant units to ensure design quality, speed up appraisal progress and organize construction on schedule for this project.

The main items of the project to renovate the area in front of Ben Thanh Market (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) will start construction in August, aiming to shape a new green space and square by 2025.

Total project investment is about 145 billion VND.
