Spending 200 million pounds, Liverpool challenges the entire Premier League

Liverpool are creating a "storm" in the transfer market by spending more than 200 million pounds in this summer transfer window alone.

Liverpool kick off the 2025 summer transfer window with a quality signing named Florian Wirtz.

The 2024/25 Premier League champions are closing in on a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi. According to the Liverpool Echo , Crystal Palace have agreed to sell Guehi for £35m.

If the Guehi deal is completed, Liverpool will have spent over £200 million in the summer transfer window this year. Previously, "The Kop" completed the purchase of midfielder Florian Wirtz for £116 million from Leverkusen, and acquired defender Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for £40 million.

Adding to the previous contract of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen (worth more than 30 million pounds), "The Kop" can reach the milestone of more than 220 million pounds to buy new players in the summer market of 2025.

However, Liverpool's ambitions do not stop there. Sources from the British press said that "The Kop" can afford to spend at least 100-150 million pounds more on new players. They are considering the possibility of buying striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle. These names are considered the perfect pieces to strengthen Liverpool's attack.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire commented in The Times : "The 2024/25 Premier League title will bring Liverpool a huge bonus of up to £181.5 million, including revenue from television rights, performance bonuses and commercial income. This is the first time Liverpool's annual revenue has exceeded the £700 million mark, making them one of the richest clubs in the world , second only to Manchester City in the football financial rankings."

This financial stability, combined with strict adherence to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR), has given Liverpool the confidence to spend big. According to the Liverpool Echo , the club could spend an additional £200m without breaching financial rules, thanks to an effective cost management strategy following a relatively quiet transfer window.

Spending £200m (possibly up to £300m or £400m) in one transfer window is seen as a direct challenge from Liverpool to rivals such as Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

While Manchester City are facing 115 charges of financial misconduct and the threat of sanctions, Liverpool are taking the opportunity to strengthen their position both on the pitch and in the transfer market.

The moves also reflect a change in approach from FSG, who have been criticised for their conservative spending. With ample financial resources, a quality squad and a clear strategy, Liverpool are on the brink of a new era of dominance in English football.
