ChatGPT 'crashes' globally

Since around 5pm ( Hanoi time), some users have reported problems with OpenAI's chatbot. Customers in the UK reported the problem first, then it spread to Europe.

The company’s status page reflects similar issues. Processing speeds have dropped, and there have been bottlenecks in ChatGPT and the Sora video creator. “Error rates have increased,” the startup says.

At the same time, the DownDetector website updated the number of error reports on the above AI service increased sharply. At the peak, there were more than 1,000 incident reports worldwide . Customers did not receive a response from the chatbot or it processed very slowly, in the past hours.

According to the editors at Tech Radar, the error status is not the same for all users. Paid customers still use it normally. On the contrary, most of the customers who have problems are non-paying users. In some cases, the software shows a message saying “Cannot find conversation”.

The situation has gradually improved since 6pm, although the server is still overloaded, the number of successful processing has increased.

This could be a connection or server issue. The issue occurs with the entire ChatGPT language model, regardless of version 4.5 or 4o. Similarly, Sora is almost completely broken, with no video processing response to commands.

This isn’t the first time OpenAI’s popular tool has suffered widespread problems. The rapid increase in users has made each time it crashes more severe. This time the problem occurred during the afternoon working hours of European countries.

According to the latest report, ChatGPT currently has up to 400 million monthly active users. This also puts a lot of pressure on the server system, which has to handle a larger number of requests. In addition, photo and video creation services also consume resources.

OpenAI's largest recorded failure occurred in June 2024, lasting three days.
